Two Beat Kick Leg Splay

I am by nature a (slow) distance swimmer and until recently haven't paid much attention to my kick. I have been trying over the Xmas hols to improve the timing of a two-beat kick. One thing I have noticed is that my legs feel much more splayed when I try to do this than when I attempt a six-beat kick. I was wondering whether people with two-beat kicks normally kick with a larger amplitude than with six beat kicks?
