I have been using the Speedo Ankle Lock with XL TYR Catalysts/Pull Buoy(graduated from M to L to XL) for the past year or so and have noticed that it has helped siginificantly in my longer distance races. You are forced to "press the T" to avoid your legs from riding too low in the water. Without them on it really helps you focus less on the kick and more on full body efficiency especially in long course races. However, I would strongly recommend that if you are going to put this type of stress on your shoulders that you at least try a month or so with paddles and pull buoy before attempting to add the use of the ankle lock. Also, I would not use this more than once a week. Cheers! Chris
