Women's Locker Room

Here's a thread for the ladies to discuss anything that relates to women and swimming. For example, feel free to discuss how disgustingly ugly fastskins are, how the "curse" can kill a meet, how suits don't fit, how swimming wrecks your hair, how hormones unhinge you, etc.

Geek was wondering whether it was appropriate to call women "girls." I attempted to explain that we are sometimes referred to as "girls" when joking around -- "You go girl" etc. So Geek coined the term "fegirl" instead of "female." I like his new word, so plan to keep using it. :) Gotcha.

I think the ensemble sounds fabulous! You'll look great. I love halter dresses. But no earrings?! Horrors. The holes in my ears have closed up and I cannot stand clip earrings - blech. I think the last time I wore earrings was when I got married. ;)

No need for name brands, such as Speedo or Tyr, when you can buy one of these... www.dreamproductscatalog.com/details.cfm
  • Hands down the hottest women's swimwear which is still functional (at least according to my wife and the dozen other gals that wear them around here): fabswimwear.com/contact_us These suits are indeed great. I wore my new one today at practice. I don't think I had worn a two-piece suit in public for at least 25 years. I don't know that I was hot in the sense Paul means, but I do know that on a warm day in a warm pool I was cooler than I would have been in a one-piece suit. Also, the whole time I was wearing it I was consciously keeping my abs tight (out of vanity) which was good for my swimming. So it has a training benefit. I ordered a medium at first and had to swap it for a large (I am about 5'8" and I weigh about 145) but the woman who sends them out was very quick and accommodating. If you are on the fence, get off it and order one.
  • Got one for my birthday. Fits great, love it. As if the Dara thread weren't enough ... Heard some interesting gossip at an age group meet about an extremely fast 12 year old. Seems that Mom and coach are considering putting her on birth control pills to prevent the appearance of AF, so she can keep going great guns and not have any plateaus. What next?!

You don't want to play around with BCP's, IMHO. I had a life-threatening reaction to Yaz last year and my ONLY risk factor is my age. The way pharmaceutical companies are pushing drugs these days you have to be very careful...

Now that's bizarre and something you'd expect to hear at the gymnastics center. That's a crazy soccer mom right there, crazy crazy crazy, loco mcstupid. Without being too graphic, what are the adverse affects of AF on teen swimming. Is it more of a desire to regulate and limit time away from the pool? Is starting an otherwise healthy 12 year old girl on the pill even a good idea? I hate to hear stories like this.
