Hello, I just discovered this website while searching for outdoor year-round pools in suburban Maryland (just north of D.C.). I live in Frederick, MD, and my pool covers over with a bubble in winter--the bubble just went up. BUMMER! Does ANYONE know of an outdoor year-round pool close to or in Frederick? I do know of the Bethesda and Silver Spring YMCA, but they are a little too far to drive, and there is a long waiting list at Bethesda Y. Many thanks!! aandw

Consider hotels and rental buildings: they may have private arrangements that they don't advertise. Park district pools? Perhaps asking at a water sports outfitter will turn up some possibilities. For "blainesapprentice," lots of universities have adequate to nice pools. Their Web sites may show the facilities. Good luck! VB
  • Long waiting list at the Bethesda Y??? I walked up one day last spring and signed up. I'd check into that again if I were you (esp since I've put my membership on hold). Rockville Municipal Swim Center's outdoor pool is still open for a little while longer. I don't know for sure but UMBC's outdoor 50m pool may still be open as well. Other than the Y's, I think you're SOL. The next closest I can think of is Penn State's 50m pool that usually shuts down ~Dec 1 and is back open again in March.

I don't as I am no where near there...but if someone does know of one that might greatly effect my graduate school choices...so it's good to know info indeed
  • Craig, When I win the lottery, I plan to fork over most of that money to rebuild the Hains Point LCM pool in DC. The location is to die for, but the pool and facility is falling apart. I was thinking since they already had one bubble on the island, that we'd put the bubble over in the winter. With your approval, bubble season will begin mid-November and run until mid-march. That I think is about as year-round as we can do around here.
  • Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anybody know of a good masters team (indoor is fine) near Annapolis Maryland? I'll be there next weekend for a wedding...

I'm not sure that there are any. Remeber in January the DC metropolitan area gets more snow. It can freeze in December. I'm not too sure that there are many outdoor pools in the Maryland suburbs.
