Let's just add to my misery having to swim indoors after a glorious summer of outdoor swimming--I walked into a box the first day of my vacation and fractured a bone under the baby toe. It hurt to do breaststroke and backstroke kicks but not that bad--fins actually helped stabilize my foot. I can't run (also run and play tennis) or walk or play tennis, or use stairmaster. Any one have this problem? Did you/would you continue to swim? I don't want to prolong the healing process but I WILL JUST LOSE IT if I can't even swim.

No, I had the injuries at different times. I stupidly gave myself stress fractures in both my ankle and shin (and a nasty case of shin splints) from running way too far way too often. Sigh. The endorphin addiction got me. I had the boot on for awhile -- a few weeks? Hard to remember. Crutches for 1-2 weeks. I don't think I ran again for a few months actually. Took some time. Did the ellipse machine after a month or so though. But I would never have become a masters swimmer without the running injury, so I guess it had that side benefit. :bouncing:
You know, that's my story exactly! I kept getting stress fractures of the tibia (stupid me, ran 20 miles one week on the stress fracture, not realizing what it was - took months to heal) If not for those dratted fractures, I never would have learned to swim, and am now officially addicted. However, IMO, I still believe that for keeping the body firm, keeping the weight off (I am soooo much hungrier after a swim), and for the "runner's high" running takes the prize, hands down.
For a break on the swim muscles, I am going to try spin class tonight, since all weight is placed on the heel, and the doc says it should be ok.
Mini-Fort's tape did come off mid-way through practice quite frequently. She'd just tape it again later.
Someone suggested duct tape in a post here.
