Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.

Sorry for this but I really really can't stand Dr. Laura. She's awful and a gigantic hypocrite. OK, I'll return to the topic now, that being that the Smiths are a gang of two thugs. I have not heard any of her show for a few years now. But I did find short amounts to be quite funny. How people continued to call her, knowing full well she was going to humiliate them on the air always amused me. Dr. Laura, my husband wants to have sex but I am just too tired, and my mother in law has a drug dealer boyfriend and smokes like a russian chimney in the dead of winter, should I let her babysit the kids to keep her and my husband happy?
  • Me personally....I think the easier conclusion to come to is that she is clean..... there is absolutely no proof to refute that....other than "It's never been done before"....... I would have thought so, but with over 1400 posts on the subject matter, it doesn't seem likes it's all that easy to accept the performance as genuine. I personally do. Then again, I was equally impressed with Barry Bonds until evidence began to show that he was associated with performance enhancing substances. I don't blame people for being suspicious given the drug infested climate in sports today.
  • "You know, I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life." "I'm not sitting here, some little woman standing by her man. I'm sitting here because I love him and I respect him". Hillary Clinton, March, 1992 Well, apart from the last sentence, that quote is just as intolerant as Dr. Laura. But since Geek stated my opinion on her, no need for a repeat! Yeah, that quote from Dara's partner caught my attention too, and I remember pointing it out to Mr. Fort. I would be in the doghouse if I lived like that. But, then, I wouldn't want to either, no matter how much I like to work out.
  • Here is the quote that got me (from the NYT article on Torres): Driving home one night from a sushi dinner, Torres’s partner, David Hoffman, admitted that he’ll be relieved when Torres emerges from her Olympic training tunnel. “We don’t spend as much time together,” he told me as he idled his car outside their home. “We can’t go on a vacation.” Torres had driven home separately with Tessa. Hoffman watched the swimmer standing in their driveway at dusk, her mind clearly turned toward getting Tessa to bed, so that she could get nine hours of sleep herself. “I can’t wait until this is over,” Hoffman sighed. “It’ll have been two years.” Surely one doesn't have to be a diehard conservative (which I definitely am not) to be just a little turned off by this? As inspirational as her feats have been, DT had nothing left to prove. She's already been to the Olympics 4 times. I don't spend nearly the amount of time on training that DT does and yet still I am -- or try to be -- very sensitive to any sign from my wife that it is taking away from family time or responsibilities. I am sure all of you have similar balancing acts to perform. I am not willing to call DT a bad mother or girlfriend based on one article, but I suppose it did dampen my enthusiasm for her achievements more than any talk about PEDs.
  • But, I think I'm one of the dozen people in the US that watch the Tour anymore. Sweet, I think that 1/4 of the people who watch the tour are right here on the little old USMS Discussion Forums.

Say's the guy riding a tricycle he stole in NC...this "gang of two" will be staying at your house next fall...break out the moonshine!

O.k. I've enjoyed being on this forum too much that I am going to be late for the meet. I'm pro-woman but I would say I'm conservative. I may just celebrate different things in a woman than some liberals might. I come from the Dr. Laura school-of- thought. I don't think she is in the dark ages, but she scolds women about not focusing enough on their families. Women do have a choice now and whatever they chose should be o.k. I do wonder what Dr. Laura thinks about what Dara is doing. My guess, she thinks that Dara is placing her personal achievement desires ahead of time with her daughter.
  • "You know, I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life." "I'm not sitting here, some little woman standing by her man. I'm sitting here because I love him and I respect him". Hillary Clinton, March, 1992 Thanks for getting the right quote. Guess I should have just left out the quote marks and called it a paraphrase. Funny thing was, I heard that quote when I was single and working as an associate in a big law firm. It still irked me. I didn't hold it against Bill as I voted for him in 1992. I think it is very honorable for a woman who has a professional degree to make the decision to stay home, bake cookies, and have teas. Just because somebody decides to do so does not mean they think that all women should do so. Where did you get the exact quote? I like to keep up with quotes from political figures.
  • I really don't think this is a good assumption. Lots of smokers continue to smoke through pregnancy. Drinkers probably continue to drink. If you're a drug cheat it's likely you've convinced yourself that the drugs aren't dangerous, so why worry about your baby? And for the record, I'm not saying I think Dara is cheating, just that this isn't any kind of evidence that she's clean. The point I am trying to make is that there are other viable explanations to explain an incredible performance aside from performance enhancing drug abuse. Maybe this is a glass half empty/half full argument. I am not aware of any evidence that Dara is cheating or has ever cheated, so to my thinking the times that she is swimming today are explainable by the fact that she is an extraordinary athlete who understands the training required to swim at this level. The easy conclusion to jump to is that doping is involved, but is it that far fetched that she has a fantastic freestyle stroke, has an ideal sprinter's frame, and prepared meticulously for this result? Assumptions must be made to explore this debate and it is just as easy to assume that she did all the right things rather than that she risked the health of her unborn child.

You are now learning if you say anything from a conservative slant, you are tarred and feathered as someone who is not educated or stuck in the dark ages. Typical liberal ways of disagreeing. Welcome to the USMS forums. Now that's funny right there............true.....but funny
