Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
  • Unless something else happens it's very likely... SwimStud - What motivated you to get a new look? I'm can't decide on my look, but whatever it is, guess I better be sure it's politically correct. Somebody please warn me in advance about what NOT to put up.
  • I'm no good at guessing, but th under 40's are interested because it's still elevant as they'll be 40 one day. I see it as DT doing something phenomenal: Some are questioning, based on visual, medical and statistical history or knowledge. Some are supporting her because there s nothing coming up in testing, so therefore she is clean until proven otherwise. Some are in between; amazed at her feats, wishing they could do something similar relative to their abilities, and are hoping that it is not another "mugging." You summed it up well. Do you think this thread will still be going when the Olympics get here so that we can all hash it out some more when she swims the 50?

Ahh...your alias must be "Smith by Divorce";) Um, I think it's because there are certain male members of this forum... who are in their forties... who are quite taken aback by the fact that a FEMALE swimmer, also in her forties... can beat them.... :duel:
  • "dong Breaststroke?" Can you elaborate on that?
  • I actually make it a point of jumping in with the swimmer who thinks they are entitled to their own lane and then invite anyone standing around to circle with us. No swimmer left behind.
  • 10. They're territorial about their lane space and new comers. 11. They're usually slow and get in the way when you pass them. 12. They are even more selfish and consumed about personal training time than swimmers. 13. They'll get in and go all out on the warmup set, then die off and leave early. 14. They wear their paddles and/or fins most of the time.
  • They gripe when asked to do something other than freestyle too. And then they usually do freestyle on non-free sets anyway.
  • Here's a summary of the past 5 years of discussion on this topic: 1 - most only want to do free sets 2 - most want to pull every set 3 - most have more gizmos and gear than an Army batallion 4 - all they talk about is how much they ran or bike the day before and why they can't swim good today 5 - they admire noodlers for their lack of physical exertion 6 - every single one will come to at least one workout a year and try out the wetsuit 7 - they wear wetsuits 8 - they wear snorkeling goggles 9 - they say strange things like "I'm not kicking to save my legs." That should sum it up. Let me know if I've left anything off. I do have to laugh because I've heard and seen those very same things. I wonder what they think about swimmers. What they think is not going to keep me from "swimming my own stroke," but it would be intesting to know how they view us USMS folks.
  • Paul I will defend her if she is not guilty. It does look bad for her. I will still wait until all results are in. I still need definite proof. So far I have only heard a maybe she did. A & B sample failed....you do yourself disservice defending people like this.
  • Me thinks it is already off the wall. If she does win the 50, which won't be an easy task, then you are probably right. The discussions about Dara will become more intense than what is already been here. Anyone on the forum does have the right to challenge what someone else says and to state their opinion. I agree with Geogre that it shouldn't be done in private email, when the posts/poster I disagree with and possibly others disagree with. I don't have any personal ill will toward elise, but took a different view on some of the things she said. After all, this is a discussion forum where people not only express opinions and ask for advice but others have the right to passionately disagree with a post and poster. If you don't believe me, there are other threads with even more disagreement and passion than this one. I agree with you, wookiee. It is better to be passionate about things in life. You, Rooster, and Sam Perry seem to share at least one thing in common and that is that you will take up for somebody if you feel they are being unfairly attacked. I respect that in all of you and wish we had more of it these days. Anybody heard how the training is going for our Olympians? Is Dara getting trained the same way as the others or are they doing something a little different with her due to her age?
