Periodization Plan

I am quite new to swimming and have been reading about periodization training plans. I understand the general concepts and would like to give it a try over the next year. Can anyone direct me to a resource that will help be with the nuts and bolts of putting a specific plan together. Most of the trainers in my area can do it for triathletes but most don't have much specific swimming experience. I would even be willing to pay a knowledgeable coach to help me through the first year. Thanks Spudfin

    I learned this word recently while reading up on strength training. I've never given much thought to the swimming workouts through a season, I just do what the coach says. Apart from the taper, it pretty much seems the same. Not everyone in any given masters club competes in meets so I'm wondering how widely used this is in the masters world. The coach where I swim already has his hands full with three different speeds and intervals, let alone keeping track of who is and is not swimming in meets or triathlons. Of course I also have the opportunity to apply it in other training I do (weightlifting and various dry land cardio activities) .
