Hey SS, I hope you do good and enjoy it. My first OW was a mile in a lake 2 summers ago. I did it again last year as well as the 2.7 mi. Donner Lake Swim near Truckee CA. This year I'm doing Donner again plus either the Bridge swim in Sandpoint ID, (if I can arrange to travel with one of the other guys in my club) or the Big Shoulders in Chicago in Sept.
John, if I go to Sandpoint maybe we can meet for a cold one after. I'll keep in touch and let you know if I'm going to make it there.
Pool,
Hope you can make it then. I am excited about this race because, unlike a pool race, I have no idea how I will do or what to expect of myself. I want to race and finish(plus have a good time while doing so)
John
Yipee, Rich! This is good news. I just know you will enjoy the freedom associated with this swim. I can't wait to hear how it goes!!! Depending upon how many people are entered, it can also become rather humorous at the start!!

LOL it coincides with my mother visiting so i've tossed down the gauntlet to her to join me! since it's not USMS she can do it too!
Donna you'll be my mantra when I start sucking wind after a couple of hundred yards:
"Donna's doing 20 times this...shuddup and swim!"
Rich,
Way to go! You will have to tell us what you think of it(open water) Like you, I have entered my first open water race...the USMS 1-3 mile swim in Sandpoint,ID.
I keep asking myself why I would want to leave the confines of my safe, lighted, roped pool to try this type of race. Then I realized, that is exactly why, to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.
Good luck with your race.
John

Thanks...I enjoyed the short swim I did at the beach last week but it was in the rolling surf and hard but I enjoyed the experience...looking forward to it!
Good luck to you too John.
Swimshark,
You should try it just once. You might really like open water. I know you would do great! You can't say you don't like it if you never tried it!
Swimmy
:cheerleader:
I don't think I should refer to it as a race...the speed that I go on distances > 100 yards I will have barnacles colonising my keel by the time I exit...l
Cool. Take some pictures so we can see them!
