After taking a look at the swim suit post, I had the following comment...
Hey, we should have a printed USMS calendar with the dates of all National (Including Postal) Meets on it for sale around December each year. And it can't be real serious stuff. It has to be photos of people having fun. Maybe with some inspirational tips or fun quotes.
I wonder how this could happen and if people like the idea?
In the 70s(or 80s they all run together) USMS did have a calender. They had a male and female swimmer featured each month by age groups(25-29 in Jan,30=34 in Feb.etc.)
Sounds cool to me. As noted in my reply to the other thread, Runner's World has had a great calendar they put out every year and seems to get a lot of takers. Similar idea--nice pix, quotes, important events noted, training tips....

What about those who would qualify for the 13th month (84 and over)? Where would they go?
Not that I'm worried. If chosen as a model, (IF), I'd be in September...........
USMS did have a swimsuit calendar back in 1987 and 1988. There were no high tech suits then and I believe they showed different swimmers/models starting with the then 25-29 age group for January and going thru all the ages by month ending with the 80-84 age group in December. I still have those calendars because I logged and wrote all of my workouts each day, by month. I went over 1 million yards/meters for both years back then. The calendars are similar to what USA Swimming does today in that there is a nice bio of the swimmers of what the swimmers do in and out of the pool. I believe the calendars did not sell very well and that is why they were dropped. The information on the calendar is very similar to the information on the calandar of the USMS Planner. The pictures had some kind of background for swimming.
maybe an on-line calendar, or just a photo gallery with comments.
when you click on the About USMS link on the usms web you get 4 short paragraphs. while there is something to be said about brevity, and there is LOTS of other info at the site, the "about" link is usually the 1st thing i click on for any web i visit. maybe if there was a "meet usms" photo gallery there then first time visitors might get more interested. as the old saw goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words.
just an idea, something to think about. i know the usms web master(s) are pretty well taxed now as it is.
I like the idea of having the upcoming events, and quotes or tips. I also like the idea of having swimmers pictures, or really cool venues photos.
Can we also add historical trivia to the calendar, like the first recorded official recognition of modern-day breastroke, or the first swim 100 under a minute, or key dates in USMS history, or birthdates of historical figures in swimming? (I love the history channel!)
