Times and how to speed them up...

Hi everyone! This morning I went to UofH to be timed in a 50 meter pool. Soooo, I swam 3 times free with 2 minutes rests in between and 3 times *** with the same rest time. Dove in from the side, no block. Anyway, here are my times for 50 meter free: 00:46:1 00:47:8 00:46:97 AVE: 00:46:97 here are my times for 50 meter ***: 00:54:1 00:54:7 00:55:2 AVE: 00:55:6 So my question is, how do I go faster and do I post these times for Nationals or should I post a few sec. less since I am hoping to get better by August? I will have one more session with my coach next week before submitting times, but not sure if one week will make a difference. Help please! :bow:
  • Gerdrick I remember seeing you swim as zones and at the time I remember thinking that there were things you could do to swim faster. I'd start with the short term fixes. Which are: Improve your Technique, Mental Stuff like getting in IPS right before you swim and Wear a fast skin when you race. In training Work on sprints focus on improving your free and *** 25 speed Keep doing those fast 50 swims for time each week one free one *** get someone to video you and time you post the video on youtube so we can watch I'll watch it and give you specific suggestions that will make you faster IPS (ideal performance state) Also right before your fast swims make them drastic situations in your mind, you absolutely have to get to the other side of the pool as fast as you possibly can, dive in and attack your race with perfect technique be aggressive get pissed off Ways to improve long term are: train consistently lift weights get lean improve your kicking speed I know you can swim faster Prove it Ande Hi everyone!     Thanks Ande!!! I'll work on that! Will try to make my husband to video my swim this weekend (too bad it'll be in a 25 yards pool).

    Yeah everything Ande said! :D & without knowing your technique....how about the work that you do on a weekly basis? ie: What type of interval work do you do for these strokes & are you planning on competing in the 50m or 100 + ? I do similiar times to what you quoted when I am coming back from a big break, but 2 months later would expect to go 36.5's & 43's respectively.....after planning my interval work to suit. (I'm more a 200m Brs'er though, so I don't concentrate on the 50's)
