After a 2 1/2 month layoff out of the pool from Feb to mid April with tendonitis in both shoulders Im finally getting back in the groove after a few months back in the water. Shoulders feel great and like new. I was in PT for months and also going to a chiropractor, both worked magic on me.
Im not swimming as intense yet because there is no reason to. I have no plans to compete this summer but come fall I will be ready to go at it. I have been spending time doing more cross training. Running 3 miles a day, pounding the weights instead of the beers when I was out of service, and currently just swimming 4 days a week. The swimming will go to 6 days a week in fall. I am finally at a base pace of 1:10 per hundred. Meaning now I can finally make intervals of 10x100 on 1:10 or 10x200 on 2:20. It's not my ideal base interval but seems like a milestone for me after struggling once I got back in water.
To me its been a long recovery. I put on 20 lbs while not swimming, yikes! Good news thats all gone :-) I'm really looking forward to the fall and competetion again. So any 100 and especially 200 fliers that wanna race, lemme know :-)

Let me know if you guys plan something for Mark... sounds awesome. I do think it is a great career move for him, but the team will definately have to work hard to fill his shoes - I'm not surprised to hear your report about the aquatics director... figures, huh? We'll just have to wait and see how the new head coach views Masters swimming. As for you swimming with the youngins, just hang in there - you never know. However, I'm glad that Mark is staying until the summer is over.
Definitely a good career move for him. I just hope the USS kids do not bail out on team. I remember going into my senior year a new Y was built. The Y I had been swimming at all my life was small but team was fierce. Our coach went to the new Y and practially the whole team switched over to new Y leaving old Y with not much of a team.
If they do not get in the right coach with good knowledge, I can see the elite kiddos bailing and going to the cross town rival dayton raiders. Hope that does not happen, only time will tell and see who the replacement is.

Congrats on getting back in the pool so successfully. I'm glad the PT and chiro worked! Keep up the exercises!
Cross training is good. I love to run. But it doesn't sounds like your swimming intervals are exactly slacker style. I think you'll bounce right back. But you can keep that 200 fly to yourself!
Kudos! :applaud:
Hey Greg!
Glad to see that you are back... I haven't been to the pool FOREVER. I know we are practicing outside now, but I have been enjoying my rest - I am running now (this is a miracle) too...
Anyways, did you hear about Mark? I will head to the pool once in a while to say hi to you guys - so see ya around! Say hi to everyone for me!

Sarah,
Hey there, we have missed you at practice. Hope all has been well. I found out about Mark (coach) on Wednesday practice. He announced to us that he was leaving masters and uss coaching to go be assistant woman coach at Miami University (Ohio).
Im really happy for him and sad for the programs. He really built up the USS team from scratch and same with the high school program. Our concern now is about the future of our practicing come fall. I hear the aquatic director has been trying to get rid of masters swimming because its not a money maker. Plus the connections Mark had for us to practice outside at local pool in morning in summer could be gone next year.
I wonder if I will still be able to practice with the USS team come fall. I do not go to all there practices, usually 3 a week. But with new coach who knows, he might not want the old timer there.
The masters are going to be planning a dinner out or something and gift for Mark. SO keep in touch and I will let ya know what is going on.
