Blackbeard/Muppet/Jeff is hosting the Terrapin Cup on July 1. There will be at least one grudge race. Others can join in.
Grudge Race #1: Blackbeard/Muppet vs. Fortress in the 50 meter fly LC
Handicap: Blackbeard gives Fort 2 seconds, one for each decade. (Blackbeard 25-29; Fort 45-49)
Fur: Blackbeard goes full fur. Fort wears a worn out Fastskin II.
Blackbeard profile: Been training like a demon. Just swam the 4.4 mile bay swim in an hour and half. Recently developed a hankering for the 50 fly. May hurt himself in advance playing hockey. May be distracted hosting the meet and making sure everything runs well. May still be drinking too much tequila after Dave Barra paid up from grudge race, part 1. Has home field advantage and endurance advantage.
Fort profile: Sketchy training. Sketchy left shoulder. Monofin injury. But won't be swimming any distance free beforehand. Could suffer mommy guilt from skipping Mini-Fort's meet that morning. Likely will not have much sleep the night before. Will compensate with caffeine or guzzle red bulls like Jim Clemmons. Cruise will likely note that there is a risk that Fort will skip the meet and go shopping.
Place your bets or join in.
(Julie: I'll take you on too in that 50 back again if you want. But I'm assuming without my SDK edge in LC, I'd get smoked.)

So I concede in advance. I'd rather do a sprint triathlon with Julie's Luna Chix and fake the bike part. :bouncing:
Cool! So I could challenge you to something I might be able to win in.:groovy:
Jeff, are you doing the sprint tri? I am! Signed up a few weeks ago and go tout my running shoes. I'm normally not a runner but this has gotten me back on the pavement.
Julie, will you be there?
Alison
Tempting! Those distances sound fun! If I'm in town I will try to make it, at least to cheer for you!

:argue:The shortest tris I can find in my area are the "sprint" ones at
400 yd swim/ 12.5 mi bike/ 3.2 mile run.
To me, they are significantly more painful than any swim - from the 200 fly to the 5K lake.
I disagree. The 50 back last weekend was much more painful than this past weekend's 2-mile lake swim and sprint triathlon. Maybe that's my lack of speed work, right Fort?
Woa! I don't remember 50s ever hurting. They're over too fast.
As my twin has said, a good sprint workout is darn hard.
As for the 50s themselves, they're a breeze. It's just strength, technique and execution. Sometimes you execute, sometimes not. There's no time for pain, unless Julie is referring to the psychic pain. :joker: Although when you're old, you're pretty sore the next day from the all out sprinting. Remember, Jules, I'm not the only one who said to do speedwork. :laugh2:;)
I hope your back's OK, Kevin!

Since I (mildly) threw my back out putting sunblock on my calves on Friday...I am so unconvinced of my back's ability to withstand a run of more than 20 ft...

Sorry to hear about the back, I can relate. For the past week I have been getting cramps in my back at night. Last night was the worst. I had to crawl, slowly, to the restroom in the middle of the night. It was awful :notworking:
During the day my back is fine. At most its a little sore from the cramps. I have no idea what is going on. I plan to see the doc later today and hope he has an idea. I do not want to go through another night like last night.
Kevin
Sorry to hear that Stud! That's why Ms. Stud needs to do that for you the next time. :D
There's no novelty value in it for her...I might vacation in GA next year, so you can help me out...if you think the corresponding shelf lives will withstand such a test ;) :laugh2:

Kevin--I hate to give unsolicited advice but just incase you're a rookie to back pains:
I suggest rolling a towel or sweatshirt up and putting it in the small of your back...it might feel a little odd at first...try relaxing on the floor with said "cushion" first before trying to sleep. Do some stretching (duh) and try pressing up from the waist only (lying on your front ). Keep your hips on the floor, go slow and don't press beyond if/where you feel pain. Let the back do the work. Ice is your friend.
