Grudge Races, Part 2

Blackbeard/Muppet/Jeff is hosting the Terrapin Cup on July 1. There will be at least one grudge race. Others can join in. Grudge Race #1: Blackbeard/Muppet vs. Fortress in the 50 meter fly LC Handicap: Blackbeard gives Fort 2 seconds, one for each decade. (Blackbeard 25-29; Fort 45-49) Fur: Blackbeard goes full fur. Fort wears a worn out Fastskin II. Blackbeard profile: Been training like a demon. Just swam the 4.4 mile bay swim in an hour and half. Recently developed a hankering for the 50 fly. May hurt himself in advance playing hockey. May be distracted hosting the meet and making sure everything runs well. May still be drinking too much tequila after Dave Barra paid up from grudge race, part 1. Has home field advantage and endurance advantage. Fort profile: Sketchy training. Sketchy left shoulder. Monofin injury. But won't be swimming any distance free beforehand. Could suffer mommy guilt from skipping Mini-Fort's meet that morning. Likely will not have much sleep the night before. Will compensate with caffeine or guzzle red bulls like Jim Clemmons. Cruise will likely note that there is a risk that Fort will skip the meet and go shopping. Place your bets or join in. (Julie: I'll take you on too in that 50 back again if you want. But I'm assuming without my SDK edge in LC, I'd get smoked.)
  • It was the real time, no added handicap. I wrote both times down as they came in and was pleased. Sorry Jeff. You had too many other things to deal with to worry about a race. Maybe the next match should be when you are not meet director! Fort, thanks for the kind words with the 400 IM. I only wish it had been faster. Stupid wrist. Maybe I should have raided the mini fridge (I forgot my energy bars!). At least I redemed myself with the 400 free. My 2nd fastest time ever! :banana: No Haines Point - I'll be in Atlanta. Next one for me is Zones. Alison
  • Yes Fort won straight up. And Leslie, I can verify I was going as fast as I could, but seeing as how my events were a all warmup, race and warmdown combined into one, that was all I was going to hammer out yesterday. :dedhorse: To your credit, I would have had to do a PB by .31 to have won the bet. Amazing swim!:bow::bouncing: I hope y'all had a good time! Thanks for the feedback! As for my 400, on 200M (in races) to warm up, I was very pleased with that time. I've got my eyes on a really tough team record, and I am going to have to rely on swims like that to get me there!
  • The shoulder hurt Friday and Saturday, but on both occasions loosened up as the workout progressed. I also swam yesterday and had no problems at all, so hopefully I'm back at 100%. And congrats, Fort. Great swim!

    It was good for me right up until last week. I was in Huntington Beach for work for a few days and meant to swim, but...ahem..got a little lazy! I swam yesterday and today and both times my left shoulder hurt :sad: I guess I get shoulder injuries when I don't swim! Anyway, I hope it's a temporary thing. I hope to keep the hammer down through July then do a short taper before the meet. I also need to get a timed 50 in sometime for my match up with Rich. Hey Kirk, My shoulders are most grumpy when out of the pool as well. Taking 2-3 days off almost always results in a bit of stiffness and sore muscle tissue. Fortunately for me (and hopefully for you) the best remedy is to swim.
  • Thanks Poolraat and Jeff. I was happy with the time. In fairness to Jeff, though, he had barely any warm up. He also gave me an assist by letting me sneak into the volunteer office to grab a cup of java before the 50 fly. :coffee: My teammate Julie also gave me one of her team-sponsored mini fudge brownie nut luna bars. :hug: Seemed to do the trick! Alison: That 400 IM did not look slow to me! Your evilstroke looked great! Lots of great swims by all! Muppet: Great job directing. Great 400 free too! Can you please lower the pool temp back to frigid though?
  • Fort,way to go. That is FAST.:cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:
  • Guess I should disclose that Leslie was the big winner in the 50 back crushing Mollie, Barbara and I by TWO SECONDS! Way to go, Fort! I may have to cut you off of my stash of tiny LUNA bars at swim meets when I'm racing you or else steal your Rock Star drink earlier in the meet! Great job with the meet Jeff! A good time was had by all....and you'll be happy to know that all of the warm down pool socials were in fact happening in the first two lanes of the warm down pool. Anyone going to the DCRP meet at Hains Point in a few weeks?
  • Dang Jeff!!! You got whipped!! Way to go Leslie. 50 LC Meter Butterfly =============================================================================== Name Age Team Finals =============================================================================== 1 Livingston, Leslie 46 GMUP 31.61 2 Strahota, Jeff 27 TERR 31.68 Congratulations to Leslie!!! Good job, gal! :wine::party2::bouncing::cheerleader::whiteflag:
  • Ditto. Staying up late and Monofin training. The secret formula. Ha, ha. Yep, I like my MF and I was up until 1:00 am. I think the MF has really helped improve my SDKs and core strength. Other bad habits in addition to staying up late: training with fins frequently, excessive caffeine in the morning, drinking wine the night before races (but not in excess), no engine building and doing too much running. :angel: Seriously, though, I do a lot of speedwork. For a couple weeks before the meet, I did a boatload of 25s and 50s. The secret to fast 50s is speedwork. I didn't feel that great the morning of the race, but one of my teammates said my sprint training was where is should have been.
  • Hey, it's the results that count, not how you got there. Congrats! I'm a real inspiration to Draculinas everywhere. :rofl:
