Grudge Races, Part 2

Blackbeard/Muppet/Jeff is hosting the Terrapin Cup on July 1. There will be at least one grudge race. Others can join in. Grudge Race #1: Blackbeard/Muppet vs. Fortress in the 50 meter fly LC Handicap: Blackbeard gives Fort 2 seconds, one for each decade. (Blackbeard 25-29; Fort 45-49) Fur: Blackbeard goes full fur. Fort wears a worn out Fastskin II. Blackbeard profile: Been training like a demon. Just swam the 4.4 mile bay swim in an hour and half. Recently developed a hankering for the 50 fly. May hurt himself in advance playing hockey. May be distracted hosting the meet and making sure everything runs well. May still be drinking too much tequila after Dave Barra paid up from grudge race, part 1. Has home field advantage and endurance advantage. Fort profile: Sketchy training. Sketchy left shoulder. Monofin injury. But won't be swimming any distance free beforehand. Could suffer mommy guilt from skipping Mini-Fort's meet that morning. Likely will not have much sleep the night before. Will compensate with caffeine or guzzle red bulls like Jim Clemmons. Cruise will likely note that there is a risk that Fort will skip the meet and go shopping. Place your bets or join in. (Julie: I'll take you on too in that 50 back again if you want. But I'm assuming without my SDK edge in LC, I'd get smoked.)
  • Did you guys swim at the Mission meet? What was the result? Muppet: I see you seeded yourself at 33.9. How did we end up not in the same heat?! I just want to whine about being in lane 1 for backstroke. :violin: I hate outside lanes. Plus, I'm going to be drown by Jeff Roddin and Clay Britt. Although now that Clay is swimming meets again, I guess Ande has a ready-made grudge race. Leslie, it looks like a lot of people sandbagged with 34's this year. And I should probably have gone with the 34:01. Oh well. Heck, you'll have to set the bar high the previous heat. If its too high, I may just concede without swimming :frustrated:

Did you guys swim at the Mission meet? What was the result? Not yet, its August 3-5. June has been a bad month for training so far. Too many things got in the way to where I averaged 2 work outs a week. Fortunately it looks like I will have more access to 50M training during july. And I'm sure that will help. Kevin
  • June has been a bad month for training so far. It was good for me right up until last week. I was in Huntington Beach for work for a few days and meant to swim, but...ahem..got a little lazy! I swam yesterday and today and both times my left shoulder hurt  I guess I get shoulder injuries when I don't swim! Anyway, I hope it's a temporary thing. I hope to keep the hammer down through July then do a short taper before the meet. I also need to get a timed 50 in sometime for my match up with Rich.
  • Leslie, I hope you're asleep and resting up for tomorrow morning! :dedhorse::duel::banana::rofl::fish2: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR YOU READY TO RUMMMMMMMMMMBBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
  • :cheerleader: Great to see everyone at the Terrapin Cup Meet! Excellent swimming everyone! Go Fortress! Nice to meet you, Swimshark! You did a great job organizing the meet, Muppet! Happy Laps, everyone! Swimmy :) :cheerleader:
  • Hi Swimmy. Nice meeting you, too. Thanks for zipping me up. You must have put some fastness on the zip because I had a good 400 free (after a bad 400 IM and 200 free) The grudge race was fun to watch and I am happy the estrogen side won! Go Leslie (thanks for the cheers). Mollie thanks for cheering me on. Muppet, good meet, thanks. Alison

I hope to keep the hammer down through July then do a short taper before the meet...... That's interesting about your shoulder. I've had the same thing happen. Our pool closes for about 6-7 weeks every winter and during that period of little or no swimming (I occassionally swim at a hotel pool here) my shoulder will ache. Lately I've been doing as much as 5000 a day, lots of long free intervals as well as sprint work on all the strokes and have had no shoulder issues at all.:dunno:

  • So, am I reading this right that Fortress won straight up, or have you already added in the 2.5 second correction? That's my real time. Surprised myself. I'm not sure Jeff was trying. He was certainly distracted by meet duties. :woot: Julie: If you girls would break down and do some speedwork and end your love affairs with the 200 back, you'd probably kick my ass. Sorry, no Hains Point for me. Kiddo meet. Kirk: I agree with Matt on the shoulder thing. Rest seems to tighten everything up. Do some RC exercises too!
