I am doing my first LCM meet and was wondering if the conversions are accurate.
50 free SCY to LCM:
26.8 converts to 31.16
100 free SCY to LCM:
1:01.75 converts to 1:11.55
I don't want to seed myself in a slow heat, but I'm almost sure I can do better than that.
It might be a bit off, but remember that you're swimming 10% further
(440 yds is almost exactly 400 m) and have fewer turns. So even if
you ignore the turns you'd expect 50 yds at 26.8 to map to about
29.5 for 50 m. That leaves about a 1.3 second advantage for the
missing turn. It's more significant for the 100 because you're losing
two turns. 1:01.75 for 100 yds gives you about 1:07.9 without the
extra turns. Add 2.6 seconds for the two missing turns and you're
at 1:10.5.
So maybe the converter is a little pessimistic, but probably not
terribly so. Feel free to seed yourself with the more optimistic
times. ;)
