I thought I read somewhere that in a race if you switch lanes and don't interfere with other swimmers and finish in the orginal lane, it is leagal. Is this correct for uss swimming. If it is what rule number is it in the rule book?

This is somewhat embarrassing, but have been guilty of swimming in three lanes during a 400 im about 10 years ago. While swimming at a local meet, and after having a few too many drinks the night before, I managed to surface in the wrong lane on one of my backstroke turns, and if that wasn't bad enough, I came out of my underwater breaststroke sequence in the other lane beside me. It wasn't one of my best performances :) As I did not interfere with anyone, I don't think I was dq'd.
I swam drunk in the Med once...to rescue a drowning air matress.
Only other silly thing sports related is trying to bench press when drunk (I thought I was sober)...and the bar slowly inching down to my head as I lost strength...thankfully someone sober was there to rescue me lol

While running in the Philly marathon, I was having a bit of a struggle... you know... you get pain in one spot, and that pain invites all its friends in, and after a while, I begin to feel as if I've had too many beers the night before... when I come upon guys giving out cups of beer. Normally I won't touch the stuff while racing, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Beer? YES! and I grabbed some when I passed the guys on the way back. I don't think I ran any better (and fortunately, there were no lanes to switch, but I was careful not ot zigzag back and forth on the street too much)--but I sure felt better! :drink:
Read an article recently about the guy who swam the Amazon... says he drank about a bottle of wine per day... helped him swim more relaxed. Hmmmm.... wonder if he switched lanes a lot. ;)
And the 10 and unders won't try to do it.
I remember shadowing all the 15-18 year olds when I was that age not so long ago. I tried to do everything they did. Walk, talk, prerace... everything. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that at the very least a seed gets planted.
Honestly, I'd laugh if I saw you guys do that. But I think you can think of other things to do. Find a women's suit and bathing cap (one with the 3d flowers and strap) in the lost and found and swim a race with that. I'd be lying if I advised against a conspicious mooning of someone underwater. :mooning: my senior year of HS, we had a senior relay who tag-teamed a free relay with a Senior balloon. :groovy:
