Hey everybody, I'm the new guy around nowdays, haha not really. But i'm still young and in high school, i don't know if that applies anything to this forum, but i just turned 18 and im heading into the summer of what will be my senior year... I'm from a small town in Montana which would be Sidney... um we only swim about 3 months out of the year and its all SC Meters, swimmers here are aloud to swim 3 events plus relays to be considered scoring swimmers for their team and such... I would really really love to swim in college, but I don't know where to go to get my name out there you know? Federation rules state that you may not swim in meets before June 1st and after August 6th of the season... otherwise you forfeit your right of being in the federation... umm our age groups go by your birthday as of January 1st... so this year i will be a Senior boy, just like last year which is 15-19, me being 18, my times are fairly good..actually i don't know since i've never been out of Montana to swim... but I swim 50 free 25.00 which was at state last year and a State/pool record... also the 100 fly 1:05:02 which was also a state record and the 50 fly 27:52.. and the state record was 27:51 so yeah it was a heart breaker but what can ya do? I'm looking for anybody to help me get my name to college's and swimming out of Montana, because to be the best you have to compete with the best and thats what I'm willing to do! I really don't know if that relates to what this forums is all about... but its what I got! Any information would be awesome! Thanks so much! -Montana boy

Hello. Well, first of all... welcome! You are headed into your final year of high school - and what a year it will be. Enjoy it! Anyways, are you practicing year round? I don't know too much about Montana's swimming federation... so I am not too sure on your complete background. Next question - do you know what you want to study (major in) in college? This will be the first way to narrow down the schools. Get a list of 5 to 10 that sound great to you... campus size, aquatic facilities, a possible scholarship and what NCAA division the school is in will be factors for you as well. Next, you can pretty much give the coach or assistant coach a call or even e-mail them. You can also go onto the team's website and fill out their athlete questionnaires! Totally easy! Submit them, and follow up with a call in a few days (to give them time to look it over). The next step will be to go and visit the school - if there is ANYTHING that you don't like when you visit, like the coach doesn't have the same values as you, the team members rub you the wrong way, whatever the case - go with your gut instincts... so then you can cross it off your list if you didn't like what you heard. You want to feel like you are at home. You are going to be swimming and studying your behind off, so you want to have comfortable surroundings - trust me. Good luck to you, this is such a great time in your life - have fun!
