Should your feet break the surface of the water in the backstroke? I can kick fairly fast but my feet are underwater. My knees might come above water some but not the feet. My instructor says the feet need to come up and make a splash but when I try that, my butt sinks.
Advice?

Hi Mirabella, your feet should break the surface just a few inches and create some white water. If your butt sinks, the reason is not your feet, but your head position. When you try to kick harder, do not lift your head.:blah:
