I have had several requests from swimmers who want to improve their strokes.
Why don't we have a place that we can find a coach for different cities all over the world. I have been asked today about coaches in Guatamala Cty, Reno and Tampa.

What kind of requests? asking for help or asking you to be their coach? If it is the former, personally I think that's because they are admire your skill, your simple interpretation of your skills and your brilliant career experience and they want to have your help. At least I think that way. If it is the latter, probably they think: en, since George can go to Mexico every year, why should he be bothered to come to my place? Either way probably you should think about buliding a Geroge Swimming Coach Organization worldwide. :applaud:
Seriously I think there is a place in this forum for coach information.
Tree, it would be nice to help everyone and I do try. I have several requests a day and send out free instructions to anyone who requests. I do feel overloaded on occasion and several do pay for my service but the majority is free.
Tricky question!
Masters like well certified coaches who will offer lots of stroke correction and follow a specific season's plan.
Swimmers come with different expectations. Different personalities suit different people. Some learn technique quickly, others by small steps. Some aren't interested in technique! Or even different energy systems.
A coach I may think is top notch may not suit every swimmer.
Excellent coaches, or coaches with 'good reputations' are discovered quickly. This brings the numbers. Crowded lanes, and less time avaliable to work individually gradually causes disgruntlement, usually from those who don't want technique, or who feel their needs are not being met.
As important is the club. Is it well run, with a good sense of well being? Masters with similiar focus, dedication and support of the program. This helps keep everything running smoothly.

Your idea of having a public database of coaches is an interesting one. I do know that USMS keeps a database of folks who indicate that they're coaches on their registration forms. To my knowledge, though, that information has never been made public.
If anyone has more ideas on how a public coaches' database might work (opt-in? extra checkbox on the registration form?), I'm all ears :D

I understand what you want. An area if maintained would be useful, especially for people who travel a lot.
I just came form Tampa Bay Area (Clearwater) and know a great coach. If you need a name a contact info, let me know.
Bill thanks for the info in advance, Bill and Chris it would be great to have a site for coaches like the swimmers guide. http://www.swimmersguide.com/
