All this back and forth between the breaststrokers and the freestylers (in particular) is all just in fun, right? I realize everyone has their favorite stroke (well, except for the IMers). I can't really swim anything other than freestyle, but I do enjoy the occasional bit of breaststroke (as long as I'm not in a big hurry and my knees are feeling okay). I think it allows me to concentrate on the catch fairly well which should help my freestyle, especially because I can actually watch what my hands and forearms are doing, not just guess based on "feel". So I guess in part I treat breastroke as a stroke drill for freestyle.
Yes? No? Maybe?
Thx,
Skip Montanaro
Heck no it's an all out war!!!
Breaststroke stinks! Are you kidding?!
And the dissing of breaststroke is not limited mainly to freestylers. There are plenty of swimmers that fall into the "anything but breaststroke please" category. Although as a former gymnast/diver, I must really urge Paul Smith to get his facts straight ...
Breaststroke is only a means to get to freestyle in an IM.
(Except for some odd reason, most of my friends and family members are breaststrokers. But they're insane anyway.)
Peter prefers a combination fly and breaststroke.
Don't say that George! It's a personal attack. We don't want Peter to have to stand up and say "My name is Peter and I'm a butterfrogger."
Oh, and, "My name is Leslie and I like caffeine before I sprint."
I've seen Leslie Breaststroke..and she got all defensive and said it was just warming down... I dunno I think she's in training for a shock 200 BR attempt.
You haven't gotten the PMs with PDFs of my times when 13! And at zones I was just warming down after doing some sprints off the blocks to practice, duh, starts ... Apparently, it is good to practice them. I'm glad you're not defensive about backstoke. ;) I might try another masters 50 *** if I could get a cool t-shirt (and it didn't interfere with something really important.)
Don't get me all PO'd now. I don't want to get up and give a speech. Besides, you're a sprinter too! :thhbbb:
George:
Now, I do that breaststroke arms with a dolphin kick thing. But I don't think that's legal at meets for some odd reason. Just practice.

I can't speak for others, but at least for me I treat it as all in good fun, 'cept fly...I honestly don't like fly that much.

Oh puh-leeze, Leslie- you know you harbour the guilty knowledge that you too, could be a breastroker (racing as a kid), if only you could summon the moxie to address the crowd..."Hi, my name is Leslie and I am a breastroker."

How can I possibly be defensive about my backstroke? Theres nothing good about it to defend...other than the fact I have the audacity to take 42 seconds on a 50...
Fly breeds shoulder muscles! Your shoulders do not grow further apart unless you're using really sloppy form and have loosey goosey tendencies to begin with...
LOL hahaha
My shoulders are much bigger and broader as a swimmer than a runner! End of report. :thhbbb:
P.S. I do not have sloppy fly technique. :dedhorse:
Although I disagree with SS, I do agree with Poolraat: "Chicks dig guys that swim fly!"
