How many coaches

Hi, I'm new here. I have a question regarding youth swim teams. My child is a member of small youth team, approximately 60-70 kids ranging in age from 6 years to 17 years old. I have been asked to do a little research as to how other teams handle the coaching duties. If you are a member/coach of a youth swim team how does the coaching work in your club? For example is there one head coach and several assistant coaches? If so, what are the duties of each coach? Thanks very much swimmom
  • Swimmom, You will find a variety of organizations, depending a lot on the personality and strengths of the coaching and office staff and on who owns the club. In our town, we have a coach owned program of about 200 kids, with a head coach, 2 salaried assistant coaches, 2 part time assistant coaches and an office manager. Each coach is responsible for 1 or more groups of kids (based on age and skill) and they have other responsibilities for team and meet management. For more in depth information on club development, may I suggest you get in touch with Pat Hogan at USA Swimming? Pat is responsible for USA Swimming’s club development and has a wealth of information to share.
