Thanks Jim, just don't give me any crap for the 50 free like certain others. I never swam it in SCM.
Fortress,
You are going to have to make a point to swim the 50m free.
A long forum debate before your time, determined the 50 free to be the "top of the pecking-order event", above all others.
At least that's how I saw it.....
Ian.
BTW, did you check out Dmitri's great SCM 50 time in the 45's? Must be all those Popov lessons. Congratulations to him too!
Jim Clemmons 200 *** SCM 2:50.89
Jim Clemmons 200 *** LCM 2:50.48
impressive!!! :notworthy: :dedhorse:
Allen made me do the 2:50.48 LCM. It was his fault.
Maybe you should try backstroke?
I have a bad shoulder (not technique related) that objects to backstroke and knees that object to breaststroke.
Hence I dabble in fly, which continues to remain a bit of a mystery to me, never having swum it when young.
Ian.
There are usually a lot of Americans in the short course rankings, but I bet lots of people took time off after worlds and were not in shape during the SCM season.
Looking through the SCM listings, it looks like masters team USA has a boatload of competiton from the rest of the world. In some events, there's only 1 USA swimmer on the list. Are we just slow or does this possibly reflect the fact that we don't swim SCM that much because we are busy swimming SCY too?
I haven't gotten thru both genders and all the age groups so I'm just speculating based on your statement.
I think a lot of US masters swimmers took the rest of the year off after World's. Some are still out....Our SCY meets were slightly smaller this year than average I believe.
Jim, I hope you've been reading the breaststroke turn thread because obviously your turns stink if you swim the same time short course and long course! ;)
Actually, I just had an "off-meet" that particular weekend. Never really tapered for it thinking I was going to travel to the Long Beach SPMA meet in December, but something came up and I just failed to make the trip happen. I'm usually in the 2:45 ballpark rested.
Our "turns" can always use focus nonetheless.
I'm often in the same boat you are. I don't swim too many SCM meets, but when I do I sometimes realize I swam the same time or better long course just a few months previously.
Tell me when/ how that happens. I'm still in a very physically and mentally abusive relationship with it.
:shakeshead:
I don't know yet! I've only swum it once! I'm still in the "trying" phase. You'll have to ask the other FAF Sista. The 100 free is her fav event, as you know.
It just wasn't as bad as I thought. (But I did loaf the second length and was scolded for it.) I don't know if I'll get a chance to have a "physically and mentally abusive relationship" with it. I probably won't even get a chance to swim it in SCM because of the paucity of meets anyway.
You don't need to swim that one. You're much more diverse. Go swim that 400 IM again. :thhbbb:
I'm even trying to fall in love with the 100 free.
