What is the key to flying distance?

I am finally starting to get the hang of fly, but still can't swim a distance at one go - by distance, I mean fly-wise. i.e., more than 50 meters. What is the key to flying distance? I wonder why I lose my wind only after 50 meters of flying when I can swim 1000 meters of freestyle without much fatigue.

    It is simple, the kick. nothing is ever that simple! i think the key is relaxation.... by that i mean finding the part of each stroke cycle that allows you to release the tension of those muscle groups that are the first ones to fatigue. not simple and certainly not intuitive for most of us.
