Mini-taper

Anybody ever do what I'll call a "mini-taper"? Not a full taper, but resting a little bit. If so, what would it look like if you were say: lifting (3-4x/wk) and swimming (about 3,500 day x 4-5 days/wk)? Perhaps this is won for Ande! Just looking for opinions- How long would your mini-taper be? Would you stop lifting, or just cut back on wt. and/or reps. Thanks :drink:

    Karen, Our state meet is next weekend and I'll do a mini-taper as I'm planning on going to nationals 5 weeks later. I'll start adjusting tomorrow, normally my killer lift day, by dialing it way down to one set of ten reps with moderate weight and one set heavy (but not max) with a little speed swimming right after. Monday, long easy aerobic. Tues. is kick day but I won't build lactates. Wed. will be low stress uptempo speed, e.g. 32 X 25 on :45 with all odds easy free and evens fast but not all out mixing free, stroke and kick. Thurs. easy/moderate aerobics. Friday precompetition warm up and a moderate transition set like 10 X 75 free on 1:10 (meters) descending 3, 6 and 9 without building any lactates. My last lactate workout was yesterday (6 X 75 fly on 6:00). On a full taper my last lactate day will be at least 10 days out from competition. Hope this helps.
