Things to do in the water other than "just swim laps"
Former Member
Here are some things I'm particularly enjoying:
-- doing a deep dive off the board, trying to touch then bottom, and then dolphin kicking back to the surface
-- doing a bunch of flip turns in a row "on the spot" in the water, rather than off the wall
-- anything involving attempting to recover an object (e.g. brick)
-- anything involving a pole
What are your little quirky things? Or is everyone here so busy training that no one has any fun in the water?

Signatures are an individual thing. Aside from a slightly controversial isp mirror, I think they are generally not considered to be objectionable, not commented upon, and can reflect anything one happens to be thinking about at the moment, e.g., cooking or grilling. They are generally not particularly open to random NSR Einstein criticism. There is no smilie rule limit. You don't have to like them. Many don't use them. If you don't like them, don't. Otherwise, take it up on the "you are the dictator" thread where your opinion on rule changes is encouraged. Sheesh.

Michael Phelps is too busy making FB "friends" to post here.

I look for jewelry on the bottom. Last year I retrieved at least 15 pieces. They all were junk jewelry except 1 piece was a very small piece of antique silver with a small diamond in it. It all goes to the Lost and Found.
Since I am in training to be a dirty old man, when I give a found piece to one of the female lifeguards, I usually say something like "Tell your boyfriend that older men are giving you jewelry and perhaps he'll cough up something nice for your birthday, like an engagement ring." That usually gets me a big smile and a "isn't he the sweetest old guy" look.

 Leonard...have you thought of holding a clinic?
In addition to swimming laps, I enjoy the water exercise aspect. I know some of you are traditionalists (a MASTERS web-site), but there really is something to the water exercise.
I enjoy the deep water aerobics (for cardio & stretching) and have found water yoga/pilates to be extremely relaxing.
Also, I've seen, first hand, the benefits of water exercise for therapy/rehab, arthritis, obese, & ROM limited (etc.) participants.
I agree that the "exercisers" are annoying when you're trying to swim laps - ample space ought to be given to both groups.
I agree with you. If it had not been for the therapy/rehab I did in the water after my shoulder surgery, I probably would not be swimming now!

After hours lifeguarding activities were fun back in the day. When we were bored, we'd all pile on the waterslides and go down at the same time. We'd also use towels as capes and plungers as weapons and leap, like superheros, off the diving boards. There is an example of the latter activity in my profile picture. Not me, the cute guy guards. Then, there was some late night skinny dipping. I'm sure all these activities must still be engaged in today.
