Duel in the Pool

Well the Duel is Tuesday in Sydney. The first race is a MIXED 400 relay. (I'm guessing free though it doesn't say) How cool? I've been waiting for one of these. So who do you throw up there? I predict at least a couple of WRs!
  • Kirk, I think most of those guys take 2 weeks or so after a Worlds before they get back in ...

The 200 was such a great race, Megan is bummed she didn't get to take part... she pulled her groin rather badly right off the start in the 100 and could hardly walk after that. The doctor said there was no way she was swimming the 200, but... she wasn't going to argue anyway. Turned out to be a heck of a race!

That's really unfortunate because I thought that she might be able to dip under 1:07 in the 100. At least she has plenty of time to recover. I'm sure that she's ready to get back into it since now the 200 is shaping up to be a very competitive event in the US!!! Her breastroke is very pretty to watch because it's so smooth. Very similar to Leisel's but quite different from Tara's and Amanda's. I also find it interesting that she likes the long Fastskin. That's unusual for a female breastroker.

I hope she recovers quickly, but at least the injury is well timed. She was probably taking some time off anyway, right? Could make for an even longer flight back though ...

FlyQueen;86200 Kirk, I think most of those guys take 2 weeks or so after a Worlds before they get back in ... Not Libby Lenton though (nor the Aussie or US teams) She (L.L.) just (well not just, I just read it) broke the WR: Lenton breaks 100m freestyle WR in Duel in the Pool www.nbcsports.com/.../detail.html
  • I guess I am not surprised that FINA did not allow the World Record to stand because there are no rules for Mixed Relays to allow them. In Masters Swimming, they only allow World Records in Mixed Relays for 200 Meter distances. I wonder if they will change the Rule in the future. www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../14597.asp
  • I feel so sad for Libby. That has to be very heartbreaking. I had the same thing sort of happen in high school. I swam a 100 back that would have made the All-America list, but it wasn't approved because the meet did not have the right number of stroke judges and it was not timed electronically (only two watches were on my lane instead of three). I didn't have another chance to swim that time in another meet (it was my senior year), so I was left with the knowledge that my name would have been in the top six of that event that year. I am sure she will have some motivation to do it at a race that will not be questioned. I'm sure Britta Steffen, Jodie Henry, Natalie Coughlin and others are sad, too, but will also pump up their workouts, knowing what has been done and what might be done.
