As I dropped off the kids this morning at Grandma's (who took me to meets almost EVERY weekend as a kid) I started ranting about the Worlds. She said, "Could you believe he was hitting her?" To which I replied, "Huh?" I was talking about the world records.
She didn't know details, but it made the news that a man was literally hitting a female swimmer, close-fisted. She was trying to defend herself and run away... not too much information, as all she saw was the trailer.
What the heck? Can someone fill me in?

The fact that the incident happened in a public forum is bad. If it is a family matter, Dad (he is the adult after all) should have had enough sense to discuss it at a later time. Win or lose, the pool is not the right place to have that discussion. I mean, "That was a great swim, a PB time! Now, about your boyfriend...." Really??? Why would a parent do that on deck?
What really makes me sick though, is that I have not seen any coverage of actual SWIMMING from Worlds on TV, and it has barely been mentioned on the local news. Yet, this crap has been picked up by every local station, and they even covered it on the Early Show (CBS) this morning!:frustrated: why, Why, WHY is this a bigger event than the WR, gold medal performances that our swimmers are putting up daily?
Whack-a-media is what I want. Argh!
