I agree with other posters. Ian Thorpe may be a little ired up after his record fell, but as a swimmer and a swim fan, I would applaud the effort and skill it took to break the record.
Even when watching my kids swim at age group meets I find myself cheering on the fastest swimmers hoping to see a record broken. It doesn't matter what team you swim for, or how badly the competition is kicking your butt. Swimmers hate to get beat, but appreciate the the great swims of others.
