Well, I did it!!!! This passed Sunday I had my first ever swim meet!!!! I had wonderful time at the meet, got to dive 3 times off the blocks :applaud: during practice, not so scary after I did it a couple of times! One of the coaches from some club helped me a little. That was very nice of him! Of course when the time came to the real thing I forgot to push off with my legs and it felt more like falling in... And then I forgot what I was supposed to do after the actual  in a hurry remembered to do a pull. After that I was fine, except still was too slow on turns.... Anyway, my time for 100 *** was 1:39.51. I think it's not so bad for the first time. For some reason my swim felt too slow, as if I was a recreational kind of swimmer not a racer....is what is called adrenalin? I am pretty sure I was going hard for today all my muscles are in pain especially my abdominals....don't know. I LOVED the UofH pool! Oh my it was absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Well, enough bubbling! Also, can someone please tell me what the numbers (I marked them in red) are? #33 Women 30-34 100 *** 1:38.00 1:39.51 (6) 3 47.01 1:39.51 (52.50) Thanks all for all your help! Catherine

Congratulations!!! You have more guts than me and I jump out of airplanes for a living:bow: Bill, jumping out of planes is down to a bad wiring job on your mother board--nothing to do with bravery ;) My brother did that too. :shakeshead:

Thanks guys! I think I definitely want to do it again!!!! Wish there were more meets around here! :coffee: Hey, here's a question, I don't really get anything from the Masters' team at the club where I am, if I decide not to do Masters at my club can I still compete at Masters Meets? :dunno: What kind of job requires to jump out of airplanes?

Provided you are registered with USMS. Teams allow you to swim relays--even if nothing else. :)

  • Catherine, First, congrats on your first meet!!!! Second, you can enter up to 3 events at Nationals without making any cuts. You should give it a try, since it is close to home for you this year! I have been to 3 Nationals before and they are a blast! You get to see some really fast swims, be inspired seeing 96 year olds dive in off the blocks, and the atmosphere is a big swimming party. Think about it! :) Carrie
  • Congrats, isn't it addicting? Welcome to the club, you'll LOVE it!

aquaFeisty - thanks for the info!!! FlyQueen - you are right! I am getting addicted to this whole competition thing. The thing is though, I know that I am not ever going to be an Olympic swimmer and sometimes I think what's the point? You know I could always spend money on something else instead of paying for private swim lessons, but at the same time, it is so much fun.... I guess it's my upbringing, the idea was if you are doing something only do that to win, and win big, otherwise don't even bother. I have to work on myself to get over that mindset....:frustrated: Sad, ha?

Sometimes you can beat all the others, but you should worry too much on that.

as long as you can get the notion of winning to beating your previous best then you'll be fine. I'll work on that! :) Having a mother who was a high level gymnast is a little intimidating....but hey, it is never to late to start competing in swimming, right? I also had a thought, this competition I did on Sunday was the very first type of a competition where I didn't need to win! It felt great to do something without any pressure, being a professional musician I went through a lot of contests and hated the pressure to win or to move up in ratings because I HAD to not because I wanted to.... Anyway, enough of my crazy thoughts, better go swim! Thanks for listening! :notworthy:
