This Sunday is Roatan's 6th annual International Triathlon and Pan American Long Distance. I've been swimming a lot lately, but last Saturday afternoon after completing a 3-1/4 mile swim, I got sick of all things. I have been in bed since Sunday the 4th until yesterday the 12th. I swam about a mile yesterday but all split up. The problem is overall weakness; can't walk very far without holding onto something to catch my breath. But it's only Tuesday so I hope that by this weekend, I will be recovered. Thank goodness it's only a mile swim. My partner is an Ironman competitor flying in from the States; he's doing the run and bike for our relay.
So I am hoping my past training will far exceed my being so darn sick for so long. I just want the mile swim to feel good so it's completely enjoyable.
Wish us luck, I'll report back the results later (oops, may not swim a 22 minute mile this year!!!).

As I often say about things: Don't over-think this. You can only do a race so many times, so leave at least one of them for the actual race and not in your head. You have more than enough distance under your belt for this, so finishing it is a given. Be sure to get a decent warmup before the race - again, your distance training is more than enough to cover both the warmup and race. In the words of Frank Alongi: "You get in that race, you go like Hell."

I agree with LBJ, DB. It sounds dreadfully unpleasant to be overthinking or rehearsing marathon type swims in your mind. :thhbbb:
You'll do great. It's only a mile. Much easier than 18. Just float fast.
Now for my quote:
"The great thing about athletics is that it's like poker sometimes: you know what's in your hand and it may be a load of rubbish, but you've got to keep up the front." -- Sebastian Coe
Thanks to both Jims and Ahmed for your encouragement. I guess we all second guess ourselves sometimes, and because I have not been sick in 6 years, it has me a tad worried. And you are right, I won't be walking, I'll be swimming which is my natural environment.
I am always a back-half swimmer anyway, I let people go ahead of me as I establish my pace and then build on it. Why change now?
I'm off for an ez one mile swim today, nothing too high intensity.

luck? from what i've read of your posts, it is not about luck. i once heard that luck is "opportunity meeting preparation." This is an opportunity, you have prepared. You will do well.
It is my experience that good things tend to happen to good people. From your posts, it is obvious you are more than just a good person. Good things will happen to you. You will do well.
be, and you will be,
we will all be with you every stroke of the way on Sunday! Buena Suerta, amiga y nos hermana. nadare bien.

Donna, I threw in a CD I hadn't listened to for awhile today, and I thought of you when listening to one of the songs, so I thought I'd post the lyrics. It's a popular song in some circles, so you may have heard it:
Guy Clark, "The Cape"
Eight years old with flour sack cape
Tied all around his neck
He climbed up on the garage
Figurin’ what the heck
He screwed his courage up so tight
The whole thing come unwound
He got a runnin’ start and bless his heart
He headed for the ground
He’s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape
All grown up with a flour sack cape
Tied all around his dream
He’s full of piss and vinegar
He’s bustin’ at the seams
He licked his finger and checked the wind
It’s gonna be do or die
He wasn’t scared of nothin’, Boys
He was pretty sure he could fly
He’s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape
Old and grey with a flour sack cape
Tied all around his head
He’s still jumpin’ off the garage
And will be till he’s dead
All these years the people said
He’s actin’ like a kid
He did not know he could not fly
So he did
He’s one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold you breath
Always trust your cape
Ah, one of those songs I wish I'd written. If you've never heard it, the music is simple guitar picking with Guy singing.
Have fun Sunday. Spread your arms, hold your breath, and always trust your cape. :)
Just want to add my voice: good luck Donna
Sounds like you are panicking/doubting yourself a bit.... don't.
Have confidence, get your mind into that place where you just let your body do what you have trained it to do.
Then afterwards the other half can be barman :drink:
