How do you see/keep track of workout???

I was just wondering what do people take to the pool to see/keep track of their work out. At the 'Y" they don't have wipe or chalk boards. So I use a paper protector, print out my workout from the forum and turn and tape both top and bottom of the paper protector to help keep some of the water out. It works - it stills gets wet, but I can still see it. I can use the same workout twice before I have to throw it out from being to wet. I was just wonder what other do that may work better.
  • Well, some people call me a bit retentive, but I take a scuba slate (small white board you can write on with pencil and erase with a regular eraser - you can get them at scuba shops) and write all my workouts down for Masters, and when I swim by myself I write it on the board and it is right there. I take it to work after practice and write the practice in my log book and record the yardage in my Excel sheet. The advantages are that I can see the little white board better than the board our coach uses, I have about three years' worth of workouts if I need one, and I can easily keep track of my yardage per week. Maybe I am a bit retentive... i wouldn't call that retentive, i was thoroughly impressed when i saw the scuba slate the first time. i thought it was a really clever idea. :) when i swim by myself, i print out a workout (preferably on a laser printer) and throw it into a freezer bag. when the workouts start getting soggy, i get a new bag. i also wear contacts, so i can see the dry erase board at practice and the small fonts when i swim alone. yay for disposable contacts!

My coach e-mails me my workouts from Florida. I increase the font and bold them so I can read then through my foggy goggles. I just put them at the end of my lane. If it gets wet no big deal. I have it saved. I just make sure I throw it away when I'm done. I hate litters. It is interesting to see the peekers who look at it when they think I can't see them. Since I do Tri's, I practise sighting ahead a lot. I asked once if they wanted to use it. I thought I was being polite, but she was very embarrassed so I don't offer any more.
  • I, too have used a white board that I bought at the local dive/scuba shop. It comes with a pencil attached to it so you can't lose your pencil. The writing stays on it until you use something like soft scrub to remove it, so if you want to log your workout in a workout book when you get home, you don't have to worry about still being able to read it like you do if you have a piece of paper that got wet. Also, nothing to throw away! I used the same board for several years before deciding to get a nice clean new one.
  • Another ziploc bag user--altho I think the plexiglass thing is cool! That was when I had a masters' coach who would meet us once a week, but also e-mail us workouts for two other days per week. I had to print them large--and used bright colors (but ink jet printers and water don't mix, hence the ziploc bags). Also if I was feeling playful, I'd have some fun w/ graphics and illustrations--so although I wasn't too fast, I had the prettiest looking workout sheets! :D

I write mine on index cards in ballpoint pen, or print them out so they take up a half sheet of paper. I get them wet and stick them to the wall or edge of the pool deck. I can usually use them multiple times before they start to fall apart. I swim a coached workout twice a week, and swim twice a week on my own. I'm not a coach and was never a competitive swimmer as a youngster, so I'm not gifted with the workout writing - which is why I write down all of my coach's and/or get him to email them to me.
