I was just wondering what do people take to the pool to see/keep track of their work out.
At the 'Y" they don't have wipe or chalk boards.
So I use a paper protector, print out my workout from the forum and turn and tape both top and bottom of the paper protector to help keep some of the water out. It works - it stills gets wet, but I can still see it. I can use the same workout twice before I have to throw it out from being to wet.
I was just wonder what other do that may work better.

I normally do the paper protector thing as well, but I also write it in a notebook, so I don't worry about taping it together to keep the workout itself dry. I only put it in the protector to make it more durable on the deck so that it doesn't get ripped if I have to move lanes or someone steps on it or what not.
I use to use freezer bags as well thats a good idea also.
I could never remember my whole 6,000+ yard workout, so having it on the deck is a must for me
I decide in advance how many yards will be warmup, pre-set, kick, main set, cooldown. During my kick set I decide what I'll do for the main set and it's something simple. Today it was 3 x (200 IM, 200 Back, 200 Free) with a sendoff that allowed about 20 seconds rest and enough intensity that I wanted to rest a little longer.
When I'm really training seriously, I use an 8 X 10 inch (roughly) sheet of thin (1/8 inch thick) milky white plexiglas. Then, I write the workout with a grease pencil in letters large enough that I can easily see them even when struggling to breathe. Everything is waterproof and can be erased at the end of practice with a little elbow grease and some standard cleaner.
This has the advantage that I can also RECORD my swim times as I do them, since the plastic is rigid and will act as a portable writing table at poolside. I like to keep track of my times (in repeat 100s, for example, or all-out 100s or 50s) to compare with my endless spreadsheet of results from other training years. I always know exactly where I stand in training.
Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll swim my best at the big meets. That depends more on who I'm partying with and just how much is consumed...

I don't even bother wasting the extra expensive freezer bags on this. I find a regular sandwich size zip-loc style bag works just fine and I can fit several workouts in it. I've used the same one since I can remember. All the workouts stay dry.
Although, I occassionally forget to bring it after spending the extra time finding a special workout or writing one out, so I do try to imprint to memory at least the main set before I leave the house.
I print my workout in LARGE BOLD print so I can read it (the joy of getting older!)
Yeah, I noticed that my arms aren't long enough for regular print either, and throw in some foggy goggles....
I use index cards in sandwich bags.
I only rarely need to write my own workout, but when I do I write it in pencil then just get the paper wet and stick it to either the wall or a kickboard.
I do the same thing as Kirk, but my workouts are printed, and then put on the wall. In Arizona, though, if the paper doesn't stay wet, the sun will dry it out in a matter of minutes, so I make sure to keep it close to the middle of the lane so my flip turns keep it wet.
The sheet protector is a great idea, but since I don't need the workout after I'm done, I have no need to keep it dry.
It would be impossible for me to remember every detail of my workouts, because I do about five sets per workout and each set is quite specific.
Quart-sized ziplock freezer bag, then stick it to the kickboard. I type all my workouts for the week on one sheet of paper. As long as I'm nice to the bag, it'll last months or even years.
I get mine wet and stick them to a cone. When practice is over, I plaster it to my kickboard and by the time I get home 12 hours later, it is dry again!
