I know it's always better to try and reach the wall at full extension but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way. So in that case is it better to take the half stroke, or just keep gliding and hope for the best?

Most definately could be. I have no depth perception without my contacts...and I dont' wear them when I swim. Maybe I'll just close my left eye and use my right only. :) I've never worn my contacts when I swim though, so I think by now I would be used to it. I'd like to think I"m getting faster and going farther and my body just isn't used to it yet. :D
