I know it's always better to try and reach the wall at full extension but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way. So in that case is it better to take the half stroke, or just keep gliding and hope for the best?

Fly never half stroke. ***,take an extra pull if you are really short and can do a full pull.If you have to do that make sure your recovery is REALLY fast.
