I know it's always better to try and reach the wall at full extension but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way. So in that case is it better to take the half stroke, or just keep gliding and hope for the best?

This is always a hard call, especially for you breaststrokers. :thhbbb:
For breaststroke, if you're going to glide, glide as hard as you can or lunge into the wall so you don't lose too much momentum. Don't coast slowly into the wall. If you think you will coast, take a half stroke instead. Get your feet up quickly and rocket back off the wall as fast as possible. At least that's what I'd do. For fly, I'd be more inclined to glide hard. Half stroke fly is dreadful.
