Half-Strokes: To Take or Not To Take

I know it's always better to try and reach the wall at full extension but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way. So in that case is it better to take the half stroke, or just keep gliding and hope for the best? (In terms of competition and practice)

I think glide...b/c you slow even more if u surface...opinion really...as I always hit the wall exactly at full stretch and just before my speed slows... OK LOL half pull is ok but can mess ur turn
