I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding.
Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

Attagirl to my Mother and slight attaboy to me.
I've set the example and used others here as encouragment for her to get back to swimming!

Go Mum!
Red, good to see that you've caught the bug again, swimming masters is so much more rewarding to the vast majority of us than age-group was that I'm sure you're rehooked for life! Attaboy.

Very cool. Can't wait to see you and your mom swimming together.
Good luck TN Boy!
Now a big attagirl to my FAF twin Draculina Beth/Swimr4Life who swam blazing fast 50 and 100 frees this Saturday, which were her fastest this season!! She is now #1 in the nation in the 100 free (56.2)!! More swims to come. She proves you don't need sleep to swim fast. :groovy:
Also attaboy to SwimStud who is a CONN State Champ and PR'd both his 50 free and 200 ***, dropping a full second in both! (No doubt, the starts were improved!) :applaud: :woot:
Thanks for the attaboys Leslie, Rich, Barb and Peter!!!!
I was so happy with my 50 and 100 frees. My personal best times in my new age group! I felt good in the water too!....despite not really sleeping well the week before. Sunday was ok...no improvement on my times. I equaled my 200 free but swam slower on my 100 IM and 50 Fly. I think I got about 4 hours of interrupted sleep the night before!! UGGH. I was very tired and just felt "heavy" in the water Sunday. You know what I mean? The events were very close together - I swam 4 events in two hours Saturday and 4 events in 2 and a half hours Sunday! My 100 IM, 200 free and 50 fly were back to back. But, it was the first annual Gary Eaton meet. Gary was a Georgia Masters swimmer who died last year. We hope to have this meet every year and that attendance will increase! If you are ever interested in coming to a late season short course meet in Georgia, let me know!
I swam in my second masters meet this weekend, a month after my first. Trying to process the results. I swam seven events, which I am happy about, including two I had always avoided: the 200 and 500 free. My 50 and 100 free were exactly, within a tenth, of where they were a month ago, and the break-a-minute threshold is still two seconds away. But the 200 felt pretty good. I didn't go very fast--2:20--but my form and wind were good, so I am cautiously hopeful. I also really enjoyed the 50 fly, and am beginning to wonder about developing that stroke for longer distances. I have a nice stroke--it's only the breathing that kills my momentum.
So I don't feel fast, but I do feel stronger than I did. I think weights are next, and more aggressive intervals.
I am really excited about this sport again, and I guess my self-attaboy has something to do with putting in the time and building up the nerve to compete again, especially after a precipitating health crisis not quite two years ago. Now, after two meets, it's not a novelty, but a mission. I woke up thinking about how to go faster this morning...
ATTABOY RED!!! Keep working hard and you will probably have major time improvements at your next meet!

Good luck to the kids Kevin!:applaud:
Thanks imspoiled,
My boys did great. My oldest took 3rd in the 50 free out of about 40 kids, this in only his second meet. He also swam a great 100 *** and 50 back. We left before the results were posted on the 100 ***, but I think he placed in that as well.
My youngest, who has been swimming longer, dropped over 3 seconds in his 50 free, dropped 5 seconds in his 100 back, and held even on his 50 ***. He was very excited about his swims. :groovy:

As a lap swimming newbie to this sport I hesitate to post this but I am proud of my small accomplishments over the past year and would like to share them with like minded (albeit much more advanced)swimmers. My initial goal has been to develop efficient stroke technique and the many tips on technique, links, and general knowledge I found on this forum have been an immense help. Thanks to all the contributors. That being said; I have decreased my DPS to 16-17 per 25 m on a consistent basis. I have increased my workouts to 1850 m 3x wk (workouts take roughly 45-50 min) I have learned to efficiently breath bilaterally. My EVF technique is becoming more solid and while not what I would consider strong, my kick is satisfactory. My focus has been on developing the vessel technique and I think I have finally built a reasonably sound foundation. As an added benefit I have decreased my blood pressure from a scary 140/94 to a happy 120/80 and maintained a 22 lb weight loss for over a year, all thanks to the most wonderfully complete exercise one could want. Anyway I know this is not a technical post but I can't think of a better place to put these thoughts. Thanks again for a great forum.;)
Larry, don't hesitate to post, we want positive and you delivered! With your focus, the sky's the limit. An enormous ATTABOY! for all the progress you've made.
