I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding.
Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

.....Also remember that there are such things as 100 IMS too poolrat LOL! :thhbbb:
I swam the 100 IM for the first time ever this past weekend. OMG - that is a fun race. I still felt like an old lady on the freeway during the breaststroke leg, however. :joker: I didn't realize that you can still get killed by the breaststrokers over 25yards. :shakeshead:

I know how you feel Mswimming!.....but the farther you can get on the underwater pullout, the less breaststroke you actually have to swim. So if you can somehow get about 10-15 meters underwater (with the newly allowed dolphin kick inserted in there), you only have to swim around 12 - 15 yards of actual breaststroke....even so, I still lose significant ground on that cursed leg anyway!!.....So here's your slim to none window of opportunity now Richie Rich (cause I know you're going to read this)...I hope your taking notes now LOL!

All I have to say about Breastroke leg is Mwahahahaha...and after that then I'm left with the Free to really catchup or pass because all you easy stroke swimmers are tired from actually using your muscles rather than gliding about...
My turn:
I swam in the Inland NW Masters Champs meet in Pullman WA last weekend. I didn't do as well as I wanted in 2 of my races but the other 2 were ok.
100 back: About 4 sec off my best. My legs went numb after the 1st 50. Need to do more kicking and work more on the 2nd half of this race.
200 IM: First time I've swam this event. OMG! I must've went out too fast in the fly (it felt good) 'cause I died big time about halfway through the back and just finishing was an accomplishment.
100 fly: Only the 3rd time I've done this one. PB by 5 sec. The halfway point of this race ia NOT at the 50! I swam well for 75 then it was butterstruggle the rest of the way. My teammate said it was painful to watch.
50 fly: About .4 off my pb but it felt great and no struggle. Smooth and strong all the way. Pic of the start showed me off the blocks last. Need to work on reaction at the start!
Now I need to decide between the 100 back or 100 fly for Nats. for my 6th entry.
Way to go Poolraat!
I completely agree about the 100 fly. The "halfway" point is after the third turn!
For my money I'd do the 100 back at Nats. Have fun making that decision.

Way to go BabsVa! Great work, especially the fly! Getting the first length done is the hard part. Now, rest & repeat!
Kyra, nice times. We should all swim so well when not feeling our best.
Mswimming--I'm with you on the 100 IM. Coolest race in the pool. Since it's only a 25 ***, you just have to kill the competition on the first half, then it looks like you're being modest by letting the pack gain some ground on the ***. :laugh2:

I actually think Michelle was swimming faster to get away from me at the far end of the lane!
:joker:
I didn't know you had such a performance enhancing effect! May I borrow you next time I'm in a meet? I can use all the :help: I can get! :laugh2:
I can't report impressive times right now, but I'm happy to say that my training is starting to "regrow" following that nasty flu virus described in an earlier thread. This past Sunday I made it to 2750 yards (a post-illness distance PR, not up to where I was yet but getting there); later that same day, I ran six miles. (Also training for Philly's Broad Street Run.)
So, step by step.... BabsVa, congrats on your progress. I started to get the flip turn but somehow lost the technique, so have to recover that again eventually. I know exactly what you mean about butterfly. Mine isn't pretty but when I can get a full length of the pool doing it, it's always a reason to celebrate.
And congrats to all on your super times and training! :applaud:
This is appropriate for masters swimming. A year ago I was diagnosed with High blood pressure. I think it was 150/110 or something like that. Anyway I've been to the doctor a few times since then and while it has shown improvement it was high each visit.
However last night it was normal for the first time. 120/80. And my heart rate was 56. :groovy:
Just hearing the word normal felt good.
