I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding. Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

    Good for you, Michelle.
  • I'd definitely do the 100 fly, much better event. It's the tough guy event. I found that if I hold breathing one up one down the whole way the second 50 doesn't hurt as much.
  • Gato- impressive swimming, just get the pacing issues done and there'll be no stopping you (except the wall). It sounds like you were at the same meets as Kyra...any information for us? Thanks Peter. Kyra was at the same meet. I thought she did great, but I'll let her tell you all about it.
  • Attagirl Kyra and BabsVa! Flip turns are awesome! Glad they're coming along. Kyra, those are good times, especially considering this was your first meet in awhile! I'm glad you had fun and got to meet Gato. And of course, your suit and googles were simply mahvelous! ;) Gato: Kudos on doing such tough events. Can't lose either way on the 100 back or 100 fly. But if you're into that "comfort swimming" thing, stick with back. That last length of fly is ever so painful. Way to go! :applaud: :groovy:
  • Attaboy to Jeff Commings for his usual awesome results at Arizona meet. Peter, how did you find out about the results way up there in BC? And if you saw my 100 free, you wouldn't call it awesome.

This is great. As a new swimmer, I am usually hesitant to post, but enjoy reading this board. I still start out in the pool feeling nervous/tense/unconfident/generally stoopit - it has only been a few months that I have been swimming any kind of real stroke. There is so much to learn. And yay me! I will actually do three or so real flip turns per session now. I got all the way down the pool doing butterfly last week. A good coach makes for much better and faster progress. And love what swimming does for the bod - flat abs with no (or very few) situps!

Thanks Peter. Kyra was at the same meet. I thought she did great, but I'll let her tell you all about it. I must confess I haven't been keeping up with this thread, so when I randomly opened it and see y'all talking about me, I thought I'd post my times. ;) They're ok, but I think I could have done better. 50 free- 33 (ties my personal best) 100 free - 1:15 (my PB is 1:14) 1000 free- 15:01 50 *** - 43 (could have been better) 100 *** - 1:36

Sorry I missed you, BabsVa- Attagirl, every step in the right direction will make the next one come that much quicker. Kyra- times looked pretty darned good to me, keep up the training (what else is there to do in the boonies?) and we'll see some big drops.

Attagirl to Kyra and attaboy to poolraat for their meet performances this weekend. Kyra was also fighting a cold going into that meet and that could have been one of the reasons she felt so drained after your races. I say swim the 100 fly poolraat b/c your 50 fly was pretty fast and you only died on the last 25 of your 100 fly. You have to get use to swimming that event....and you swam it for the first time in a long while this past weekend. After you swim it a couple of more times, you will probably die a lot less on the last 25....(and work on the breathing as well).....Also remember that there are such things as 100 IMS too poolrat LOL! :thhbbb: Also Attagirl to Babsva for conquering the flip turns better at practice! I'm glad to hear how you are becoming more comfortable about them now! Newmastersswimmer :groovy:
