Attaboy or attagirl: SR NH everyone welcome

I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding. Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

  • I had a pretty bad meet this past weekend at zones. I had been ill on the thursday and friday before and felt pretty weak in the pool. I just didn't have it and most of my times were much slower than only a few weeks ago except one shocker. I hate all things breaststroke and tolerate it only as a means to freestyle in during an IM. But having the choice between fly and *** during for our 400 medley relay I opted for breaststroke or, as I swim it, RESTstroke . I figured since I was sick that a 100 fly would be my final demise. I expected to swim my split in about 1:20 or worse especially since I tried to take it easy and just focus on good technique and good turns. However in checking the splits from the results page I just found out that I split a 1:13.41!? I know that is not going to win very many races. Not even in my own family. My 15 year old niece goes 1:04/05. But for me..... This was completely unexpected. I should add that my best in practice time is around 1:22 or so. Kevin I never win any races in breaststroke in my family either. :rofl: And breaststroke is still only a means to get to freestyle in IMs. I'm so sorry you were sick! It seems to be a common, and extremely frustrating, occurence right before important meets. But we gain something mentally by persevering. At least I think so. And sometimes we surprise ourselves just as you did. Your times were already blazing fast. But good for you on breaststroke! Good thing you swam it. Proves you never know and we should all try new things from time to time. (Except I'm not trying breaststroke again anytime soon. I just tried the 100 free for the first time.) Great job!! I hope you feel better. In masters, there's always tomorrow.
