I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding.
Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.
Ouch Fort that sounds painful! Attagirl for being so tough.....but what can you expect from a F.A.F. Sista Fiestress like you...LOL! Did your doctor say how long it would be before your shoulder was back to normal again?.....Or when it would be relatively back to normal again? Hang in there fort b/c I'm sure if you do all the things you are suppose to do, that your shoulder will improve....so hopefully this cutting back on your competitions and events at competitions and such will only be a temporary situation? ... (just cut out the 200 fly and you'll be fine...LOL!!)

I can still swim with it, Jim! I've apparently been swimming with an abnormal worn out labrum for 20 months now, as it is a relic from youthful engine building/trauma, which really should have been detected earlier when my shoulder/trap/neck started hurting. That's why I'm worried about my twin with the same symptoms. :(
I can still keep swimming "at my current level." (Just did 4000 yesterday.) I just can't ramp it up or engage in major engine building. Have to be a bit cautious, use fins a lot and rein in my natural tendency to overdo. The doc doesn't mind too much if I compete even, so I'll still go to my meet on March 25 and to Zones in April. I'll just swim fewer events and skip nationals this year. I don't get to all that many meets anyway because of the kidlets. (Maybe only one, two if I'm lucky, this summer.)
If all goes well, I should be much better and maybe pain free by mid-fall after everything gets a chance to regrow and get stronger. Prolo has a pretty high success rate for shoulders. Fingers crossed. I've even heard of people becoming "prolo addicts" and using it to fix everything, knees, ankles, etc. LOL. NOT that I'm ever planning to do a 200 fly like you -- even with a hopefully "new" shoulder. (Don't have to "cut it out" -- I've never swum it as a master, slacker that I am.) So when you get in and do that first 200 fly, you will be deserving of dozens of attaboys!!
