HANDICAPPING

OK...Here comes a thread for all of you wannabe odds-makers. Post your thoughts for establishing handicaps for personal challenge races. Here are a couple of mine: 1. Age credit: basic idea.....the older of the two gets a handicap. (as in chaos vs. muppet) the handicap goes to yours truly. 2. Wetsuit penalty: self explanatory....I heard 10% is a good rule of thumb for this one. 3. Personal bests (within 2 years).....swimmers are handicapped based on their best recent performances. (this could make geek vs. gull II a real nail-biter)

That's very interesting Lindsay! But I think that theoretically has me racing Rich Abrahams. No thanks. I agree...interesting, but what I'm trying to do here is figure out some method by which you or me or anyone could go up against Mr. Abrahams. Example: 2005 Chesapeake Bay results (the last year I did it) Muppet 1:48.14 Me 1:54.10 Based on past results, a six minute spread would be in order for a 2007 match-up. (putting aside the wetsuit issue, age issue, hair issue) A friend of mine would spot me 10 minutes on 5k's and we were always really close to the spread.....makes it interesting.....and if starbucks is involved....
