Swimming Camp Inquiry

A quick question for the knowledgeable readers out there. This NYT magazine called Play recently contacted me about writing a piece for a section they call "Master Class" -- they want me to go someplace warm and get some swimming instruction of some sort. I know that USMS used to have some kind of program where masters swimmers could apply to go out to Colorado Springs for intensive coaching, stroke analysis in the ICAR flume, etc. Is this still going on, do any of you know, and would it be possible to just do a "lite" version of this (a day or two; bypass the application process; not actually need to be an elite swimmer; etc.) The other possibilities would be one of Terry's TI camps (though, God help me, front quadrant swimming really hurts my shoulders, and I feel this dog is just too old to learn that particular new trick). Or--and this might be my favorite of all--didn't Gary Hall, Jr. start some sort of Sprint Club training camp down in Key West or the Bahamas or some similar place that would prove the perfect antidote to Pittsburgh this time of the year, especially if I don't have to pay for it? Please let me know the details of any such possibiities--the editor did specify he'd prefer me to go someplace "warm and outdoors-y." Which makes two of us.
  • Darn! And up until now I thought you were perfect.:thhbbb: :thhbbb: :thhbbb: I am, but I guess you're not? Is that why you want the Last Word? Romaine in the fridge ... Hoping to swim tonight ... Should be doing those ultra-boring RC exercises so I don't gross you out by becoming an LSD runner again ...
  • Bebe: I think we are all very relieved that you still want Jim and his entourage to come. I think, in fact, we would all like to come. I'll leave the wheelbarrow at home. At least I gave him the correct website and phone number.
  • I think most of us genuinely prefer lobster to bickering!! We managed to get through a whole thread recently about sprinting with only minor disagreement, in fact. But there is no lobster in my fridge, unfortunately. I'm assuming you have chardonnay down there? My fly is not perfect, but I am a drop dead sprinter. That can lead to some dissing though ... LOL. But not at your camp, I'm guessing.
  • I can see it now... Shut down the thread. It’s tempting. Please remember that the Unites States Masters Swimming Discussion Forum is provided as a benefit to our members and the adult aquatic community at large. And we would greatly appreciate it of the folks who post here would keep this in mind. I would hate to see our forum go the way of the USA Swimming forum, or become restricted to a “member’s only forum”, or cut the moderators loose to stop all non-swimming related threads and start non-swimming related posters. But if we can’t police ourselves others will do it for us. This thread is an excellent example… It started with someone asking a serious question about swim camps. And 6 pages later well over half (and I’m being generous) of the posts have nothing to do with the original question or swimming. Please help us keep our discussion forum open and available to everyone. Thank you!

And 6 pages later well over half (and I’m being generous) of the posts have nothing to do with the original question or swimming. Thanks Rob. I would just like to note that, in response to the initial thread quesion, I tried to respond in a serious and helpful manner with a detailed response that included websites and phone numbers. The thread was hijacked by a personal attack on me. I think the subsequent lightness was an attempt to defuse the attack and get back to being friendly posters. Sometimes humor is the best way to do that. And I have :drink: in my fridge ... It is an icon. ;)
  • I would die to go! I've been down to Islamorada, but not the camp. This is an odd question, but if the forum were "members only," would that mean just USMS registered masters swimmers? Would we lose our Canadian posters? Some of my favs ... And what exactly happened to the USA Swimming forum? I don't go there much, but last time I checked it still appeared to exist. In fact, I thought that Tom/Ion had transferred their SR bickering there. Caped: Blech on the fat free yogurt. I hate fat free stuff. Whole yogurt in the fridge ...

I believe it. No TFs. Very healthy. Whole grain bread. I could have had a nice salad with salmon, but decided a sandwich was easier. Last word. General Tso's Chicken.:dedhorse:
