Swimming Camp Inquiry

A quick question for the knowledgeable readers out there. This NYT magazine called Play recently contacted me about writing a piece for a section they call "Master Class" -- they want me to go someplace warm and get some swimming instruction of some sort. I know that USMS used to have some kind of program where masters swimmers could apply to go out to Colorado Springs for intensive coaching, stroke analysis in the ICAR flume, etc. Is this still going on, do any of you know, and would it be possible to just do a "lite" version of this (a day or two; bypass the application process; not actually need to be an elite swimmer; etc.) The other possibilities would be one of Terry's TI camps (though, God help me, front quadrant swimming really hurts my shoulders, and I feel this dog is just too old to learn that particular new trick). Or--and this might be my favorite of all--didn't Gary Hall, Jr. start some sort of Sprint Club training camp down in Key West or the Bahamas or some similar place that would prove the perfect antidote to Pittsburgh this time of the year, especially if I don't have to pay for it? Please let me know the details of any such possibiities--the editor did specify he'd prefer me to go someplace "warm and outdoors-y." Which makes two of us.

BTW I love bossy women.....I say punish me as you see fit bad girls!! There are so many things I could, and probably should say, but I'll keep it simple instead. This man needs :help: !

Allright, I can't resist. That comment does not belong in this forum. I suspect many will argue otherwise and that is fine. I am not always right and this could be one of those few times where I am wrong. I was heading out the door to swim in the rain (going to get wet for sure now) but realized that I must speak my mind to have a good workout. Mind spoken...workout here I come.

I'm starting a Fly Clinic on March 19th here on the island of Roatan. Come on down, we are at sea level and I'll tell you, I'd rather do a fly clinic at sea level than Colorado Springs. Why torture youselves any more than you have to. But our goal is a 350 yd fly, non stop, no turns, straight ocean swim to the buoy. So far, there are only 2 women signed up for this; where's the men? Yep, I need lots of help, just ask that fellow who wrote that bad article about me, he'll confirm. Swim camp is free, just a plane ticket and passport and we will be doing your favorite: drills and afterwards have a Monkey La-La and discuss why "we aren't there yet." And look back over the course from the beach bar and it won't look as far as it is when talking about it, only swimming it. Again, where are the men for the challenge? I think there was one. Donna

Donna Now, I didn't post on your other thread, but I'm usually up for a good challenge. I'm more of a freestyle/runner guy. But if I could come and swim free and a 350 fly without the distractions of a "here's how you do it time consuming" clinic (although if it's free and fun, as Jim Thornton's apparently will be, I wouldn't argue), I'm all for it. How bad can it be? I don't think my SPL is as good as yours though, but I'm sure you'll forgive me. As long as I can have a Monkey La-La afterward. I don't like rum and cokes. Do you frequently see this man writing falsehoods about you? Since there are several lawyers on the forum, although apparently a lot of engineers too, I think you could get yourself a counselor. Of course, since most litigation is an utter waste of time and completely ineffective, you could just ignore the jibes, hold your head high and continue to kick butt. Yes, not a bad option at all. Fortress: Thanks. Now, I'm one of the gang. (Wink thing. I hate emoticons too generally.) Since Donna is doing the swimming portion of the cliquey-triathlon, I would be happy to oblige her by doing the bike or the run portion. When I retire and I drift off into my reverie of poverty and sleep more, I will be a mountain biker.
  • That would have been my choice as well, believe it or not! I believe it. No TFs. Very healthy. Whole grain bread. I could have had a nice salad with salmon, but decided a sandwich was easier. Last word.
  • :thhbbb: :thhbbb: :thhbbb: No way. Matt and I are going to argue about who gets the last word. ;) Here it is: I'm having a tuna sandwich! I have to wait 2 more hours until lunch and I'm getting hungry. I just had an orange but that didn't help.
