Swimming Camp Inquiry

A quick question for the knowledgeable readers out there. This NYT magazine called Play recently contacted me about writing a piece for a section they call "Master Class" -- they want me to go someplace warm and get some swimming instruction of some sort. I know that USMS used to have some kind of program where masters swimmers could apply to go out to Colorado Springs for intensive coaching, stroke analysis in the ICAR flume, etc. Is this still going on, do any of you know, and would it be possible to just do a "lite" version of this (a day or two; bypass the application process; not actually need to be an elite swimmer; etc.) The other possibilities would be one of Terry's TI camps (though, God help me, front quadrant swimming really hurts my shoulders, and I feel this dog is just too old to learn that particular new trick). Or--and this might be my favorite of all--didn't Gary Hall, Jr. start some sort of Sprint Club training camp down in Key West or the Bahamas or some similar place that would prove the perfect antidote to Pittsburgh this time of the year, especially if I don't have to pay for it? Please let me know the details of any such possibiities--the editor did specify he'd prefer me to go someplace "warm and outdoors-y." Which makes two of us.

Hey there Caped One. The Fly Clinic here will be a comedy of errors I am certain. And even tho I have a terrific free SPL, I don't think I have a fly SPL at all yet; it's a work in progress entirely starting at the bottom. Now I do have a good dolphin kick and am quite smooth in swimming fly but for only about 5 yards; then I DIE, so this is a great challenge for myself and anyone trying to do the impossible. I am actually anticipating close to 50 stops during the first attempt to the buoy (350 yd)!!! I think I'll call the first attempt, The Scenic Drill. Yep, that fellow who trashed me in writing is a problem for all of us here; puts the island and us people in a bad light and there are thousands of lawyers down here (some are lawyers, gardeners, wannabe vets, even a wannabe surgeon) who have never had an education at all; if you call yourself something, then that's what you go into business as. Unbelievable. And there are no laws against slander---they've never heard of it!! So I will do as you suggest and hold my head high, but not while doing fly!!! I think this 350 fly challenge will serve a great purpose since I only swim miles of free; it will force me to use different body parts differently and can only add to my strength and conditioning!! Stay tuned, Donna

I just read this last sentence and worried that someone would think I was double entendre-ing. Not! Jeez. There's no double entendering in swimming. The only double is the mandated two hand touch on *** and fly.

Islandsox: You must be drinking too many Monkey La-Las or rum & cokes to have ignored this remark .... Hope you had a good workout after venting, Matt. Working out is always good for me when I'm feeling stressed. Some people think emoting is too. I'm not saying you're not right about certain things, you seem pretty fair, but women who are not bossy and opinionated are somewhat dull after awhile. Fortunately, the women on this forum appear not to be. To Geek's unending frustration. Will he think I'm obsessed with him for mentioning his name? Uh, not, I have a life. Just like everyone else here does, even if he chooses to malign them for writing poetry and "whatnot." Even Ande posted that someone was an "Ande hater." Is the end of civilization next? And I am not even a sprinter ... The workout was wonderful thank you very much. I don't have an issue with bossy women, I took issue with the comment following that. Something along the lines of 'punish me as you see fit'. I simply don't think that comments like those belong in this forum.

You're right Matt. This one was much more appropriate: "So would it be safe to say that an evening was spent together? Not that there is anything wrong with that ... just curious." You do know that this was in response to somebody, Rich I believe, commenting about seeing your eyes as the sun rose, etc.? I think if you would look at the posts I was responding to you would see that my line of questioning was actually quite valid and not at all inappropriate, even though I presented it entirely in jest. IMHO, a request for some bossy women to punish him (clearly a case of sexual innuendo) does not even compare to the comment of mine that you have pasted above. My comment seems closer to a cross examination while Jim's sounds like something from a Ron Jeremy movie. Note: I am only familiar with Ron Jeremy because he was a guest on the Ronn Owens Program/KGO 810 this week.

Jim, Matt, Fort. C'mon guys. Let's not open old wounds. Matt I don't think Jim was so bad--maybe you two have some issues between you that I don't know. I think you're both good guys. Let's not measure up as to who did what to who. Let's just call time and take a breath. I'm not taking sides on this I just see some more friction brewing. I've said worse I am sure than Jim's funny comment. Intended or otherwise.
