I went through a couple million pages of old threads and didn't come over a topic like this...maybe I just missed it in my skimming, but if not...
my hair is completely dead. Chlorine build-up, dry and just BLAH. I have asked around at those stores that only sell hair products, and they always reccomend a different one. I can't not calculate how much money I have spent on various hair shampoos and conditioners that were suppose to be GREAT for swimmers. I was wondering what some of you all use. I don't have a problem splurging on a product...if its going to work!

Infusium products. The leave-in conditioner is great. I put it in my hair in the morning, then I swim in the evenning. After my hair is still soft. My normal hair texture is wavy and now it is also graying.
I seriously said to a friend if they made Just For Men - Bodyhair I woudl be its first customer.

Do what genetics did for me, shave your head. You will save from buying shampoo and conditioner.

For shampoo I use whatever is in the bathroom. I also sometimes use the same soap for the body as for hair, which is l'Occitane brand. However, once in a while I'll be bad and get a "balayage" done to my hair. This is usually done without the consent of my wife. That really wrecks the hair. But, if I use a good conditioner it is okay. What I use is Pantene brand conditioner. I don't wear a cap much, unless it is a rule of the pool. Swimming without a cap cools off the body better. billy fanstone

I have to remind everyone that water varies heavily by region, and this makes a big difference in how one's hair responds to shampoos and conditioners. I have shampoo that I really like when I visit my folks but I can't stand using it when I am at home. And when I travel, it's really kind of crazy how weird the hair acts. Some places may have hard water, others soft, others softened, etc.
All that said, ultraswim shampoo right after swimming works fairly well for me, and the rest of the time I use Neutrogena anti-residue formula shampoo. Some people may feel like that strips the hair, but my hair never got out of puberty and it is still really oily (unlike my skin). For conditioner, I like many others just use some cheap stuff.

Used to use the Ultraswim products but it wasn't cutting it for my hair. I found that the Malibu (Kiefer) products were slightly better. I have a problem with my hair getting dry and strawlike.... and after a while getting a little frizzy on the ends. (So for a guy, I keep it short, getting it kept short every 7-8 weeks and taking off those ends, but still.....)
Now I am cycling between using:
Nexxus Aloe Rid (Clarifying) Shampoo which strips out the chlorine/chemicals (but seems to dry it further too) with Humectress Conditioner-- or --
Nexxus Therappe shampoo with Keraphix Conditioner.-- Or--
Biolage Matrix Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
(None of it cheap...)
And sometimes still using a light spray on, leave in conditioner
On the weekends when not swimming and actually showering at home, I end up using the wife's Bumble and Bumble stuff or regular Pantene and my hair seems to almost catch back up to a little softness after 5 days a week in the pool (no cap).

After prax, I will use Ultra swim shampoo and then a any type of deep conditioner. Sometimes I will also use a spray leave-in conditioner. I have curly hair (wich makes it naturally on the dry side), but I straighten it with a dryer and straightening iron, so I need as much conditioning as I can get! When I don't swim, Aveda Damage Therapy is a GREAT line. There is also a brand called Abba that makes a great conditioner. I believe it's called Moisture Scentsation. It's minty and smells great. It's worth the buy, for sure.

Well I actually just tried a new brand today for the first time, and so far it's great. We'll see how things are in a few weeks.
But Dove has a shampoo/conditioner line thats for severe dryness and damage. its in a dark blue bottle

Biolage Deep Conditioning Balm is the best conditioner I have found. You only need to use it once a week and it keep my chlorine and salt water abused hair healthy, strong and detangled.

Have to say that I love the Kiehl's products. They're a bit pricey, but worth the $$. They have a good dual use product, swim shampoo & body wash. Supposed to take the chlorine smell away. I like the product, but it doesn't lather in the hair (this bothered some of my team mates who tried it).
They also have a fantastic leave in conditioner that I use after every practice. This stuff rocks! My hairdresser is alway telling me my hair has "sick" (his word) shine. He can't believe how healthy it is considering how much time I spend in the pool. Mine is long, just past shoulders Both are also safe for color treated hair.

I like the L'anza line. They have a dry hair version, a daily clarifying shampoo option, and a hair repair line that might be good for you. I have fairly long, wavy-curly hair, and it's the best thing I've found. It's mid-priced.
