I'm looking for a "jammer" type suit but can only find them up to around a size 40. Which for a guy my size basically fits around my thigh.
I'm a long distance swimmer and have been using "swim trunks" for years but lets be honest I might as well be wearing a parachute. I'm definately not interested in swim "briefs" - trust me NOBODY's interested in seeing that!
I suspect I'm probably looking for someone that makes custom suits, if I can't find that, then I'd be interested in knowing where to find lycra material and have a local tailor try to make one.

I've worn it in the past, pretty cheap, and it goes from size 20 to size 50.

Have you tried regular compression shorts?
I think making a suit from lycra is going to be costly and will the tailor make them well enough? If you can et briefs that fit. use them. Wear a pair of regualr shorts until you geet to the pools edge if you feel awkward.
If you're a heavy guy, most (mature) folks will see you're at least working out, and respect that.

Not sure I'm committed to spending that much for a "swim suit" but at least this opens up some options.

You could take your current swim trunks to an alterations place - and have them take out the extra material, so you'd have a pair that was somewhat more streamlined. It shouldn't be that expensive.
Maybe lycra biking shorts?
Have you tried on the TYR jammers? I've noticed that TYR has a little bit more room in their suits, just a thought.

LOL that's an amazingly simple solution. That would definately curtail most of the parachute effect.

I've never seen a suit up to size 50....of course I'm not at all sure anyone wants to see someone size 50 in a suit that size, LOL. But that's definately an option, especially in open water.
I'm a little hesitant to expose the morning swim crowd at the pool to that kind of eye candy each morning. ;)

Just go with your badself and get those size 50 badboys. You're there to workout and I am sure nobody will notice much anyhow.
Now if you intend to stand on the diving block flexing and posing in them...there may be an issue....I got ejected from my Y for that... ;)
Also don't go spending huge amounts on compression shorts...you can get ones from Sports authoirty or the like for $30.

You might want to call Discovery Trekking...I have posted in another section about the wicking swim towel they make that is so great...but when I was looking at their site I noticed they make special custom sizes of outerwear. My brother got a jacket made (he is very large) and it was absolutely amazing. He is also incontinent, and they made him not only a swim diaper for underneath a suit but a pull on wetsuit bottom out of aquashell, which is similar to neoprene but lighter and breathable. I'm not sure if that's what you want, but it's worth calling them. They apparently do a lot of custom high tech stuff that is not on their website. Just google Discovery Trekking, you'll find them.
