Biggest Physical Challenge

It seems from hanging around here for a while that most of us have had some sort of physical challenge to overcome while getting back into swimming, mine was the fact that I smoked for about 28 years and it has taken a while to get back into a little bit of shape. Anybody else? Kind of interested to know what others have had to go through. Some pretty inspirational stories out there!!!!!!!

  • OK, I'll reply before this rolls off the first page. Bad disc in the lower back. I've overcome it by finding swimming and getting off the track. It does not limit my swimming to near the extent for running (I hung up the spikes). This has been my biggest challenge. The mental aspect of knowing I have to train within the limits of my back, not my muscles can be discouraging. Can't do a backstroke start, and fly aggravates it too much, so I am just free and *** which is coming along OK. I am really getting into swimming and find it a great challenge since I thought I would swim 100yds in under a minute by now. I know the back is a big issue for alot of people so I thank God for what I can do every day.
