Wow. Thanks for the info. Isn't that the first time Piersol has been beaten in the 200 back in many years? Couglin's times were smoking. She seems to be even better at short course than long course. I love that Brendon Hansen backstroke bit!
There are going to be some intense and very fast races at trials NEXT YEAR! I don't know if they count Peirsol's record as being LCM or SCY, too. He didn't do well last year at a meet and pulled out of finals ... I don't think he swims well unrested, Crocker doesn't seem to either ... though both of their times are fabulous!
For the women the IMs and breaststrokes are going to be crazy. There will certainly be an Olympian or former world record holder left off ... that's nuts!
For the men, I can't wait! I think Peirsol will be fine, he's a racer and LCM no one can touch him, at least yet. With Lenny back in the mix, it'll be great! There are definitely some spots that will go to underdogs ... so exciting!
I think Lenny is once again only aiming for the 100 ... but in the 200 I think Aaron will do it, I think Ryan will push him for sure, but didn't Eddie say of all the UT swimmmers right now Aaron hates to lose the most? And THAT is saying something.
Hi Barb,
The numbers (assuming I'm reading them correctly) are:
1 Phelps, Michael F 21 CW-MI 44.44 42.43
20.63 42.43 (21.80)
21 is Phelps age
CW-MI is Club Wolverine, which is in the Michigan LSC (local swim committee/club, I think??)
44.44 was his seed time, the time he used to enter the meet
42.43 was the actual time he went
and 20.63 42.43 (21.80) are his splits: he swam the first 50 of his 100 free in 20.63 and came back in 21.80... SMOKIN' FAST
Thanks, Ande for posting these. Very cool.
Yeah, I think some people were a little bothered about Phelps being so all around. Peirsol was a little dismissive about Lochte out touching him...I realize Aaron is still faster in LC but that might change very soon, you never know. 2008 might bring a buffet of crow to a few well known athletes. Phelps and Sandeno made a great showing for Club Wolverine, although this is no surprise.
Aaron's a racer no doubt, but I think as close as Lochte is there is the potential for an upset..if you can call it that. No matter how fast you are, there will always be somebody to come along and show you up.
I would love to see Lenny back in the thick of it but his shoulder history is going to make that difficult for him.
I think he did say that, but it takes more than attitude to win races at that level. I will be happy either way, I am just saying that the potential exists for things to change in that event.
or phelps 100 free?

Would one of you please explain the numbers after the club name? I've never looked at swim times before now and don't really know what I'm looking at.:dunno:
Thanks - Barb
